Zoya Summer 2016 Seashells Collection — A Textured Treasure Island For Polish Lovers!

Summer’s swan song may be weeks away but, until then, we’re keeping the beach party rocking and singing “Cake by the Ocean” (though I’m not 100% sure what the lyrics to that song even mean!). One way to keep your beauty look beach-y and bright is through Zoya’s Seashells collection, the first part of its Summer 2016 Seashells & Sunsets collection, which is comprised of six PixieDust polish shades. Last week, I showed you the shades in the Sunsets portion of the collection, which consists of punchy creamy shades, and now, we’re turning to the textured magic of PixieDust polishes.

If you’re unfamiliar with Zoya PixieDust polishes, here’s a primer: these are novel lacquers that feature a matte base but are, in turn, encrusted with encrusted with tiny specks of glitter that give nails a dose of sparkly fun while creating a three-dimensional effect. On a purely tactile level, meanwhile, these shades give your finger nails a gravelly, slightly coarse texture that’s reminiscent of sand.

The Seashells collection, then, seems perfect for the summertime since the PixieDust polishes’ sandy feel fits in perfectly with the season associated with beach volleyball games, surfing trips, and lounging under colorful umbrellas. The colors, meanwhile, are a reflection of the treasures you’d find under the sea — or, for that matter, washed up onto the shore — and of the magical (and mythical) creatures we associate with the ocean (think mermaids!).

All six shades in the Zoya Seashells Collection are available on Zoya.com, with each priced at $10. Now, time to do like The Little Mermaid‘s Sebastian and go under the sea for a look at these seashell-inspired shades! Check out pics of all six lacquers below!

ZOOEY

Maybe this shade was named Zooey because, once you paint your nails with it, your eyes are sure to grow as wide as those of doe-eyed Zooey Deschanel! It’s a warm, golden, almost honeysuckle pink shade, but it’s saturated with gold glitter and medium-sized, holographic hexagon sparkles for an other-worldly, futuristic, mesmerizing effect. It’s a magical pairing since the pink color is, in fact, reminiscent of the inside of a conch shell or the rosy hues on a calico scallop shell, but the golden undertones add that sun-soaked appeal and the holographic hexes take the polishes to a fashion-forward realm.

TILLY

This polish has an intrinsically moody, galactic glamour. At its core, Tilly is a stormy gray-silver that’s mixed with gunmetal glitter and then completed thanks to tiny holographic flecks of glitter that turn from magenta to neon violet to fluorescent green to cyan blue. In some lighting, the polish looks like a cloudy sky above an ocean expanse, with stars glimmering in the distance. In other instances, however, the holographic glitter takes over, and there’s more of a cosmic, Tron-esque feel to the polish. But, either way, it’s strictly magical.

BAY

This medium-intensity aquamarine shade will likely remind you of blue lagoons in exotic locales, of mermaid tales, of abalone shells in their natural state. This shade is, in turn, infused with tiny gold and silver glitter that make the color appear cooler or warmer depending on the angle from which your manicure is viewed.

LEVI

When I think of the girl in the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale who could spin straw into gold, this is the color I imagine her final work to be. Levi, then, is a pale and warm honey beige with fine gold shimmer and medium-sized holographic hexes that thrust the shade into the realm of fantasy. This shade reminds me of the gold gown with a matching, short-sleeved bolero jacket that Goldie Hawn wore in one scene of Overboard, of Princess Leia’s two-piece ensemble in Return of the Jedi, of the nude bodysuit with gold sequins and rhinestones that Britney wore in her “Toxic” video. It’s that sexy!

CECE

When you look at photos or videos of green sea turtles underwater, this shade of green is a common sight. It’s a medium-intensity emerald hue that also reminds me of the Land of Oz books (remember Emerald City?), but the fine threads of gold and the specks of both green and gold glitter add an effervescence to the otherwise straight-forward jewel tone, giving it what Zoya brilliantly describes as a “fizzy lemon-lime” effect.

LINDS

This cherry red shade feels frisky and flirty thanks to the red, fuchsia, and gold glitter in the formula. It makes me think of those wedge-shaped, cherry-flavored sliced candies that are a perky red hue but are coated in a fine film of sugar or, for that matter, of the thin veil of icy frost that you find when you first unwrap a raspberry or strawberry frozen fruit bar. Yum!
