Zoya “Seashells & Sunsets” Summer 2016 Nail Polish Collection — Colorful Skies First!

ZOYA-Sunsets-Summer-2016-Collections

Typically, summer polish colors revolve around bold, zesty, bubbly brights, but these don’t have to be of the fluorescent variety to capture the fun-loving nature of the season. The “Sunsets” portion of the two-part  Zoya Seashells & Sunsets Summer 2016 Collection perfectly captures this idea, with six nail lacquer shades that are cheerful and chic without venturing into neon territory (not that neons are undesirable in any way, but it’s nice to have some variety!). The entire Summer 2016 collection consists of two six-piece sets, with the Seashells edition drawing inspiration from the treasures found under the sea, swept into shore by the ebb and flow of the tides, and the Sunsets portion focusing on the stunning colors found in the sky right before nightfall. For this post, I’ll be focusing on the Sunsets shades, so stay tuned for the Seashells edition.

The Sunsets collection consists of six creamy nail lacquers ($10 each at Zoya.com), all richly pigmented and delivering full opacity with two coats. Two of the nail polishes have warmer undertones and concentrate on the red and orange realm, while the remaining four shades feature cooler undertones and explore blue, purple, pink, and green.

Take a look at all six colors below!

BRYNN

This color is billed as a “popsicle pink,” but it actually reminds me of azaleas thanks to the cool undertones of that full-bodied pink and the boldness of the shade. It’s almost a dead ringer for the color of a dragon fruit daiquiri, which just makes me want to lounge poolside with a fruity frozen beverage and show off my pretty mani!

DORY

It seems hardly coincidental that this nail lacquer would bear the name of the title character in Disney Pixar’s newest film, Finding Dory, but it’s a perfectly fitting moniker for this gorgeous cerulean blue. It’s the color of the sky on a perfect summer day, yet it’s also reminiscent of the water near tropical islands like St. Lucia. This might just be one of my favorite blue Zoya colors to date!

CAM

Most breathtaking sunsets involve painterly strokes of orange, so the Cam nail lacquer seems like an absolute necessity in this collection. This saturated orange shade is reminiscent of a ripe tangerine’s peel or, for that matter, of the lush blooms on a Flamboyant tree.

LIV

Zoya might as well have names its “Liv” polish “Luv” because this shade is bound to put stars in your eyes. It’s a totally unique purple shade with hints of reddish violet that is, in fact, reminiscent of those glorious purple-and-pink sunsets you might enjoy during a summer vacay to St. Croix, Hawaii, or Belize.

NESS

This softened, almost mint-y jade green shade is an absolute show-stopper. It was inspired by sea glass, which explains its unique tonality, but in true Zoya form, it was transformed into a more saturated and vivid hue rather than remaining sheer and translucent — which, of course, is at the root of its individuality and charm. As for the connection to the Sunsets theme, if you’ve ever watched the sun setting over the ocean and really kept your eyes on the horizon, you might have noticed a green flash, caused by the light refracting in the atmosphere. Granted, it’s not typically this shade of green, but that would certainly be quite the sight!

DIXIE

This cheeky color is described as a watermelon red, which is a pretty accurate description of the hue, but there’s a certain playful, candy-like quality to the shade that makes it feel really whimsical. If anything, it’s more of a watermelon popsicle or watermelon sorbet shade, making it all the more cool for the summer.
