Zoya 2012 NYFW Designer Collection — Inspired by the Runway
In what seemed like the blink of an eye, Zoya went from a relatively unknown but buzzy brand beloved by beauty junkies, industry insiders, and nailophiles, to a fixture during New York Fashion Week, with nail technicians creating gorgeous looks for the models working the runway. Tapping into its couture connections, then, the brand developed a three-part Fall 2012 collection inspired by the colors, textures, themes, and attitudes that dominated the runways. The Zoya Designer, Diva & Gloss Collections, then, each convey a different attitude, with the Designer collection incorporating creamy, rich, decadent shades of green, purple, wine, sage, forest green, and red; the Diva collection incorporating cool-toned shades with a metallic finish; and the Gloss collection incorporating three sheer shades with a jelly finish.
The most on-trend of the three collections is the Zoya NYFW 2012 Designer Collection, which emphasizes the decadently rich, creamy, dark, vampy shades that were a fixture during New York Fashion Week Fall 2012. The lacquers in the collection are: Natty, a stormy, steely indigo blue; Monica, a saturated eggplant purple; Rekha, a creamy candy apple red; Evvie, a grayish sage green hue; Toni, a reddish purple reminiscent of açai juice; and Noot, a deep and ominous olive green.
You can purchase the entire six-shade collection for $48 at Zoya.com or buy them individually for $8 each.
Below, you’ll find swatches of the various shades in the collection!
The Natty nail lacquer is one of the most enticing, shades with its stormy azure shade, which doesn’t feel quite maritime but also doesn’t necessarily look like an evening sky hue, making it all the more unique. Check out the photos below!
Next, we have the Rekha nail lacquer, which is the perkiest color in the collection. This season, red lipstick is one of the most predominant makeup looks, as is the resurgence of another trend: the desire to match the color of one’s lipstick and nails to one’s outfit. Though this matchy-matchy look would have had fashion policemen shouting, “Off with their heads!” in past seasons, for Fall 2012, it might just make them anoint someone into the Style Hall of Fame. With that in mind, then, the Rekha nail lacquer is the type of Maraschino cherry red that feels festive and youthful, and which will likely match with many of your favorite red lipsticks and glosses.
Mulberry lips are a major trend this season and, thanks to Zoya, you can now coat your nails in the same wine-soaked color. The Toni lacquer is reminiscent of a vintage Cabernet Sauvignon wine, with deep red undertones fusing together with purple hues for the perfect Dionysian treat.
I’m a sucker for a pretty green polish – whether it’s a mysterious forest green hue or a military-esque olive shade. Needless to say, the Evvie shade won me over pretty quickly. Unlike previous green shades from Zoya, among them Dree, this one features grayish undertones as opposed to bluish or brownish tints. Check out Evvie before — she’ll be the envy of all the girls!
Last, we have the Zoya Monica nail lacquer, the darkest shade in the Designer collection. This sinister purple hue has a prune-y plum quality so that the reddish undertones lend it a bit of a sanguine feel that adds to its vamp-y feel. Check out photos of the Monica hue below!
