When designing his Spring 2015 collection, Jay Godfrey seemed to be inspired by everything from Annie Oakley and cowgirl films to 1970s female country rock icons like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris, but these Western motifs were distilled through a decidedly urban and modern lens, so that each look incorporated a defiant, rocker chic feel. To accompany the rustic rock ‘n’ roll vibe, celebrity manicurist Patricia Yankee, representing Ricky’s NYC backstage, created a clean but textured look that wasn’t overly polished or prim.

She started out by applying the Patricia Yankee Clouds nail lacquer, a semi-opaque milky white shade, brushing on two shades in order to achieve complete coverage. Some models, those wearing Godfrey’s dressier gowns, wore only this white nail lacquer but most girls had metallic accents atop this milky hue. Depending on whether the models were poised to wore silver or gold jewelry, Yankee and her team of manicurists applied foil to their nails the corresponding metallic shade. No top coat was applied atop the foil so as to keep the look rugged and more organic. “If you put a top coat atop the foil, it smooths it out and we wanted to leave it rustic and rough,” Yankee explains.

Check out the nail look above, as well as the wavy hair with the bouffant-like volume along the crown (very June Carter Cash) and the thick black eyeliner. Bad to the bone!
