I’ve always been a fan of classic black-and-white polka dot patterns — there’s something so timeless and fun about both the spotted motif and the monochromatic color scheme. And since polka dots are having another “moment” in the fashion world (not that they ever really lose favor!), I decided to mark my own spot during this morning’s Telemundo NY segment, if you will, with a sleeveless, below-the-knee, black Carmen Marc Valvo dress with white polka dots (which I purchased at Marshall’s for all of $29.99 — score!).

To continue the thread of the circular polka dot shapes, I chose to accessorize with a  gold-toned Dannijo bib necklace featuring interlocking round links. Here’s a close-up of the necklace:

Since the necklace packs such a punch and the dress pattern is so graphic, I kept the rest of my jewelry simple, opting for gold-toned hoop earrings from Lydell NYC (purchased at TJ Maxx for $15) and a simple cuff bracelet with an I-bar silhouette and clear rhinestones encrusted down the vertical center column. Here’s a close-up of the cuff:

To give the look a bit of pop, I opted for glossy, candy red pumps from ShoeDazzle (the exact style is the “Arlo,” and it retails for $54.95). These shoes are so much fun! They have a pointed toe and an ankle strap with a gold-toned buckle, and the low-cut sides show off the arch of the foot, which is always sexy. Here’s a shot of the shoes:

Not only did they give they make the ensemble pop, but they matched my lip color perfectly to tie everything together.

As for my makeup, I kept things fairly simple, going for a retro vibe with a dramatic cat eye and a cherry red lip. Matrix hairstylist Roland Santana, meanwhile, worked my hair into the amazing braided updo you see in the photos (and he managed to do so in about 5 minutes!). Since the segment focused on the latest braided hairstyles for summer — a side fishtail braid, a chic milkmaid braid, and two cornrowed side braids along one side of the head — Santana wanted to make sure to bless me with my very own braided hairstyle (for which I’m  so thankful!).
