What I Wore: These Boots Were Made for Walkin’ (and Struttin’)
As many of you know, we experienced some technical difficulties earlier this week that prevented me from blogging — and to say it was a nightmare would be an understatement. I love connecting with readers and, without being able to post any content, It felt like my oxygen supply was dwindling. Fortunately, I can breathe again (word to Toni Braxton) since we’re back in effect thanks to our resident tech wizard (shout-out to Guillermo!).
Anyway, I’m so ready to talk fashion! Over the weekend, while temperatures hadn’t yet reached I-feel-like-an-alcapurria-under-a-hot-lamp levels, I went for a stroll in my new neighborhood with my fella and my smaller fella (my 9-year-old son). It was relatively cooler that day, so it was the perfect opportunity to wear these new JustFab booties. Full disclosure: as part of JustFab’s blogger program, I have access to some of their newest styles each month, which I receive in exchange for blogging about them. It’s a fantastic initiative and one in which I love to participate — especially since JustFab keeps up with all the latest trends and offers comfy shoes at great prices.
Having looked over all the new styles for the month of July, I immediately zoomed in on these (shown up close last above): the Hunter ankle boots ($49 at JustFab.com and $39.95 for VIP members). Available in black or taupe, the booties feature faux suede uppers, a 1 1/2″ block heel, an ankle-high shaft that slopes down along the center to create a rounded “V-like” silhouette, and five strips with silver-toned studs that encircle the base of the shaft and wrap around the heel counter. They’re the type of boots you can wear with a million things: a free-spirited floral dress, skinny jeans and a distresses graphic tee, and on an on.
On this particular day, I chose to wear them with a pair of Lucky Brand denim shorts, which have a really nice dark wash and feature a frayed hemline that creates a laid-back casual look. I then opted to wear a peasant blouse from the Princess Vera Wang collection for Kohl’s. The blouse has a billowy feel, with 3/4-length sleeves, a sloping U-shaped neckline with neck ties that allow you to cinch it higher, and copper-toned studs all along the neckline. But, of course, it’s the color and print that made the blouse perfect for this outfit since the marigold yellow feels so sunny and the floral print amplifies the Bohemian feel of the silhouette. To complete the outfit, I added a stack of Amrita Singh bangles, put on some open hoop earrings with multi-colored beads (which I bought from a street artisan many moons ago), and then I added my Peace Images Gold Coast necklace ($40 at PeaceImages.com). To add some bling to my hair, I slipped on a wide, brassy Eugenia Kim headband (purchased at a sample sale two years ago). As a finishing touch, I reached for my House of Harlow 1960 bag, a quilted cream-colored piece with two yellow triangles along the center: the one positioned along the bottom edge pointing upward and the one positioned along the top edge pointing downward. Both triangles feature concentric stitching in a tonal shade to add a bit of texture and dimension.
