Yesterday was a crazy day, one filled with deadlines, press appointments, and parenting obligations. To face the day ahead, I decided to create a punk rock-inspired look that would make me tap into my inner tough chick — well, that, and let’s face it: I love anything that’s punk and rock ‘n’ roll.

For weeks, I’d been wanting to wear the Adelle Tartan Midi Dress from OMG Fashion (which was graciously sent to me so that I could style it and review it), so it was the perfect centerpiece for a punk-themed look since, after all, folks like The Clash made tartan prints (especially red-and-black patterns) part of their style repertoire.  The dress is incredibly comfortable and super affordable, retailing for only £14.00 at OMGfashion.com. It actually has long fitted sleeves so, when you’re indoors, it will keep you nice and warm and, when you’re outside, you can simply add a cool leather jacket and hit the road (as I did here).

Since I wanted to really go punk, I immediately knew I’d be wearing my favorite Mackage leather jacket with the dress. This black leather jacket has a traditional motorcycle cut, but it’s got some really fun details like pyramid-shaped studs along the lapels and at the waistline.

Next came the accessories. I immediately gravitated to my Landver hoop earrings, which feature lethal-looking black spikes, and the k2o by Karen Ko Avant Rock V Necklace (on sale for $52 from $130 at shop.k2obykarenko.com), which features gold-toned, draped box chain strands and long conical spikes dangling from the chains to create a fringed effect. I adore fingerless gloves, so this seemed like a perfect opportunity to wear this really amazing pair from Carolina Amato. Available for $58.50 at CarolinaAmato.com, the Fingerless Leather Driving Gloves come in a rainbow of colors — including black, orange, and pink — and they feature round perforations below the knuckles, a cut-out along the center of the hand, and an adjustable strap with snap button closure at the wrist. And, since I rarely go out without rings, I added two Cigar Band Midi Rings from Nissa Jewelry ($23 for a set of three at NissaJewelry.com). Here’s a close-up shot:

Since it was a bit chilly yesterday, I wore black tights with my dress and then brought in the punk element via a pair of Kelsi Dagger booties that feature a center zipper, a  biker-inspired, fold-over ankle collar, and a peep toe. Check out the shoe action:

Last but not least, I reached for a red leather bucket bag from Treesje that incorporates a thick, woven, gunmetal-toned chain trim right above the base for an urban, street cool edge.

On the makeup front, I applied black eyeliner (Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero) and created a bold cat eye, then coated my lips with the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levre Glossy Stain in  20.

So what do you think of the look? Are you digging it?
