Last week, right before the Fourth of July weekend, I stopped by Telemundo’s “Primera Edición” to chat about the latest footwear trends — from flat espadrilles, knee-high gladiators, and flatform sandals to shoes with stylish cut-outs, tropical and floral prints, bright neon shades, color-blocked motifs, and tribal patterns. What I didn’t get to do, however, was talk about the heels I was wearing since the camera focused on the display table on which all the shoes were propped, leaving me no opportunity to show off my own footwear. I did, however, snap a quick photo seconds before the segment, which I posted on Instagram (you can see the snapshot next to last above).

The to-die-for shoes are called the “Haru” sandals and they’re part of the GX by Gwen Stefani collection, available exclusively at ShoeDazzle.com. They feature a pebbled-looking white strap that hugs the ankle perfectly, cord-like strands in black clustered together along the vamp and hugging the foot perfectly, a slim front strap with a red line running horizontally along its center, and V-shaped lines in bright red along the sides to add a geometric and almost architectural crispness to the design.

I loved the shoes the moment I saw them and knew they’d go perfectly with the BCBGMAXAZRIA dress I’d selected for the occasion — a fit-and-flare design with a saucy bodice consisting of a bustier-like structure with sheer mesh panels above the bustline and in between the bustier’s cups, a banded waist, and a playful layered skirt with fanciful chiffon. Id’ been searching for the perfect red dress for what seemed like eons and, the moment I set eyes on this dress, I knew it was the one (the again, to be fair, I had the same epiphany about a month later when I bought a red Torn by Ronny Kobo dress!).

In any case, I love the BCBGMAXAZRIA dress (and I made sure to use plenty of double-sided tape to prevent any nip slips!) and I wanted it to be the star of the day, so I kept the accessories simple but edgy. First, I opted for a pair of front-back earrings from BaubleBar. They’re called the Pearl 360 Studs ($28 at BaubleBar.com), and they’re an affordable take on the Dior earrings Rihanna has been sporting absolutely everywhere. As the name implies, the earrings feature pearl accents on both sides of the lobe (front and back) and you can decide whether to wear the larger pearl along the front or the smaller pearl. I found I like wearing the smaller pearl along the front since it magnifies the effect (as you can see in the photo third from last above).

The front-and-back earrings are a really modern and almost subversive take on pearls, which we tend to think of as dainty and prim, so I wanted to go with that good-girl-who-is-a-bit-bad vibe with the rest of my jewelry. I chose a hefty cuff from Dannijo with wing-like accents adorned with Swarovski crystals and clusters of pearls and a matching Dannijo statement ring with three pearls arranged in a triangular formation.

And, to give the look some balance and add a classic twist, I donned a simple faux pearl necklace (which I bought at Target for $9.99!).

I completed the look with a subtle smokey eye and bright red lips (I used the Hourglass Cosmetics Opaque Rouge Lipstick in Raven, along with NARS’ Heat Wave Lipstick). I think Gwen Stefani would be proud!
