What I Wore…. On A Memorial Day Beach Trip!

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I spent much of yesterday at the beach with the family — I’m a beach baby at heart, so I was beyond excited to finally  feel the sand in between my toes, read a book while hearing the ocean in the background, and help my son build some fun contraptions in the sand (a race track? check! a turtle? check! a volcano? check!) Besides, I needed to start working on my tan because my winter pallor just won’t do.

In any case, I decided to go for an outfit that was practical but had a decidedly Bohemian vibe. And so I put on my swimsuit, my Lucky Brand jean shorts and an aubergine tank top and then added the “wow” factor with a sheer, kimono-esque top featuring a floral print and cascading fringe all along the hemline. I got my particular kimono from Marshall’s, but they’re everywhere these days (it’s a huge trend this summer). Just that one detail changed the whole feel of he outfit.

Now, had I been heading to a festival, I might have worn a head chain and some wedges or heels, but since we were going to the beach, I kept things simple and chose a pair of Zigi Soho multi-strap sandals with chain and bead embellishments, worked my hair into a high ponytail, slipped on some beaded stretch bracelets (each set retails for about $6 at Target), and put on my Ray-Ban wayfarers.

The look was fun, comfortable, and still had a bit of personality. And the coolest thing about the kimono top? I could use it as a cover-up once I was chilling in my bathing suit.
