What I Wore — Indigo Suede Dress, Western Boots, And Wooden Earrings
All my friends back in New York City are starting to break out their sweaters and light jackets, but here in Texas, the weather is still on the summery side, dipping into the high ’60s in the early mornings but then rising to the ’70s and ’80s around mid-day. Since I’m most comfortable in warm weather, I’m enjoying these nice temperatures for as long as they last — and, of course, getting a bit more run out of my transitional summer-to-fall pieces. Last Saturday, for instance, I finally rocked an indigo blue suede dress from ASOS that had been hanging in my closet since April. The fabric was too heavy for the June and July heat, when three-digit temperatures are commonplace and humidity is intense, but it’s actually ideal for days when the temperature hovers around the low-to-mid ’70s.
What I love about the 100% suede dress is that it has a classic A-line silhouette, but the white contrast stitching creates a figure-flattering illusion while also infusing the piece with a bit of a Mod attitude. The roomy patch pockets, meanwhile, prove to be incredibly handy since you can store your cell phone, keys, or lipstick therein rather than throwing them into the black hole that is the interior of my purse.
To give the look a Southern attitude, I ditched the heels and instead pulled on my favorite pair of cowgirl boots from the Frye Company, which have colorful yellow star shapes along the sides and a sensible wooden block heel. I then accessorized with oversize, open frame, Good Wood NYC earrings featuring a hollow center and textured, bamboo-like ridges along their wooden perimeter; a gold-plated Wildfox long horn cow ring, and saucy Quay Australia sunglasses featuring a faux ivory tortoise shell frame and gradient gray lenses.
To complete the look, I created a nude smoky eye and achieved a matte red pout using some of Stila’s newest lip launches (more on that soon!).
The look was comfortable, fun, and totally sensible for a day of outdoor family fun. Never underestimate the convenience of a dress with pockets!
