Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Instagram, probably caught my live updates from an HBO Latino event on Tuesday evening, during which I had the pleasure of screening the new series El Hipnotizador. The event was held at the Heath restaurant/bar area, as well as the rooftop space, within the McKittrick Hotel in New York City, both of which have a retro feel to them that worked perfectly with the 1920s time era in which the series takes place. What was particularly special about this experience was that it was truly immersive, so that guests were invited to embark upon a treasure hunt of sorts, visiting different areas of the space and meeting characters from the series along the way: a haunting bride, a man with a bird-like mask, a hypnotist, a tarot reader, and so forth.

For the event, I chose to wear a dress I’d literally been dying to flaunt! It’s a black-and-white sleeveless dress from ASOS, with a high neckline, a belted waistline, an ankle-length hemline, and an angled split along the skirt. Several elements of the dress drew me in: for one, I love how dynamic the monochromatic print is, how the geometric black shapes look like bits of shattered glass or paper cut-outs bursting into the air; second, the strong shoulders and the high neck make for a striking silhouette; and third, I’m a sucker for a good midi dress. Since it was rather unexpectedly chilly that evening, I ditched the open-toe heels in favor of my favorite knee-length black leather boots from DV by Dolce Vita, which feature a pointy toe and a conical heel.

And since the dress says so much, I kept the accessories minimal, choosing a pair of black druzy Baublebar earrings (which you can see pretty clearly in the third pic above) with gold accents for an Art Deco touch, a simple gold-toned cuff from Lydell NYC, and a shield ring from Amrita Singh with a black center stone.

I finished off the look with a bold pink lip since there’s no better way to add some pop to an otherwise colorless ensemble!

Hope you dig the outfit and it gives you some style-spiration!
