The Scoop on Jessica Alba’s Smoldering Eyes, Bronzed Skin and Tangerine Lips at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards
One of our picks for best-dressed at the 2013 Golden Globes was the lovely Jessica Alba, who lit up the red carpet in a strapless peach-colored Oscar de la Renta gown. The mother of two’s makeup and hair looks were equally stunning — from the old Hollywood quality of her side-swept mane, styled in soft and cascading, Veronica Lake-ish waves to the lit-from-within glow her skin boasted and the vibrant color on her pout.
Makeup artist Lauren Andersen created Alba’s makeup look for the evening, using the playful color of her dress as an inspiration and vying to create a contrast between matte and luminous by giving her visage a youthful and bronzed luminosity and then coating her pout with a matte lipstick in a tropical, punchy shade.
To create the look, Andersen started by applying the Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum to Alba’s skin. One of my all-time favorite primers, this product not only evens the skin and offers SPF protection, but it hydrates and soothes the skin thanks to the 14 essential oils in its formula: bois de rose, lavender, geranium, petitgrain, lemon, rosemary, vanilla, clove, amyris, orange, ylang ylang, eucalyptus, cedar and rose geranium. Once skin was prepped, Andersen applied the Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand to her skin, providing the first layer of coverage. To hide dark under eye circles and contour the planes of Alba’s face, Andersen applied the Hourglass Hidden Concealer in Warm under the eyes, down the bridge of the nose, and along the center of the forehead, fanning it out in this area. To give Alba’s complexion a light layer of coverage and the desired luminosity, Andersen then swept the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light all over her face. Finally, the dabbed the bronze shade from the Hourglass Illume Creme-to-Powder Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and then dabbed the peachy pink shade on the apples of the cheeks for a youthful touch of color.
Since Andersen was giving Alba a very strong lip, she chose to create a more understated, natural-looking eye look. She started by applying the Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso along the outer corners of the eyes, smudging it with a brush for a slightly smoky effect. Next, she applied the Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer along the crease of the eyes and swept the gold shade from the Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune onto the lids. To lengthen and volumize lashes, she applied several coats of the Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara. Lastly, she touched up brows with the Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.
Lastly, Andersen applied the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera to Alba’s lips. The richly pigmented tangerine shade perfectly complemented Alba’s gown while also adding a playfulness to the whole look via the succulent, Caribbean quality of the deep mango shade.
