Telemundo “Buenos Dias Nueva York” Segment Recap — Accessories to Get the Punk Look Seen at the 2013 Met Gala
Earlier this month, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City unveiled its highly anticipated exhibit “Punk: From Chaos to Couture,” which chronicles how the musical movement birthed in the mid-1970s came to influence youth culture and, later, high fashion. On the eve of the exhibit’s opening, the museum rolled out its red carpet for its yearly gala, and a plethora of A-listers attended the event decked out in looks that they felt captured the spirit of the musical genre and its accompanying aesthetic. Celebrities like Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie, Anne Hathaway, Miranda Kerr, and Cara Delevigne arguably had the most spot-on interpretations, with Richie and Hathaway cutting their tresses and dying them a platinum shade (or, in Richie’s case, a gray hue) and Miller, Kerr, and Delevigne rocking spiked clutches, studded earrings, bold ear cuffs, double finger rings and shield rings, and more. As a nod to the fashions seen at the Met Gala, I prepared a package for Telemundo NY’s “Buenos Días Nueva York” that incorporated tons of accessories with an undeniably punk vibe. The segment aired yesterday within the 6:00 a.m. hour and, since I know many of you probably missed it, I wanted to share the video of the piece (embedded above), along with photos, and a breakdown of all the pieces showcased in the segment and where you can purchase them. Let’s get it started!
SHOES FEATURED:
I selected three pairs of shoes to feature in the segment: the Red Kiss Passion Ankle Strap Flats, the Jeffrey Campbell Lita Spike booties, and the Kelsi Dagger Francie flats. Both the Jeffrey Campbell booties and the Kelsi Dagger smoking slippers encapsulate the punk spirit via metallic studs and/or spikes, while the Red Kiss flats feature the British flag juxtaposed against newspaper ink for a Sex Pistols-worthy vibe. Check them out below:
Red Kiss Passion Metal Ankle Strap Flats, $50. Available at AMIclubwear.com
Kelsi Dagger Francie Flats, $109.95. Available at Amazon.com
Jeffrey Campbell Lita Spike bootie, $209.95. Available at Solestruck.com
HANDBAGS FEATURED:
When setting up the display table for the “Buenos Días Nueva York,” I reserved nearly half of the table for the stunning handbags we would showcase, which even had the show’s hosts oohing and aahing behind the scenes. I edited the picks down to four handbags: the Treesje Mortale tote, a black leather tote with an embossed skull pattern; the BCBGMAXAZRIA Janis Pyramid Box-Frame Clutch, a turquoise-colored clutch with a stingray-like texture and a metal frame adorned with silver-toned pyramid studs; the Shop Lately Go Girl Spiked Cross-Body Bag, a lavender-toned faux leather bag with conical spikes adorning its base and its sides; and the Nila Anthony Five Finger Spiked Clutch, a fish scale embossed minaudiere with a golden four-finger handle featuring conical spike accents. Check out all four styles below:
Treesje Mortale Open Tote, $698. Available at Treesje.com
BCBGMAXAZRIA Janis Pyramid Box-Frame Clutch, $228. Available at BCBG.com

JEWELRY FEATURED:
This was, of course, the most expansive category in the segment — in large part because I myself am such a sucker for all things featuring studs, spikes, grommets, arrows, skulls, and so forth. As you’ll see in the video, there were quite a few pieces featured — from spiked stacking rings to two-finger rings with golden chain embellishments, hefty silver necklaces with skull motifs, snake chain bracelets with spike pendants, a dramatic chainmail necklace, neon leather and thread bracelets with Swarovski crystals, and so forth. Here’s a handy breakdown of all the pieces shown!
