Tech-ing the Stage — Best Buy Introduces New Tech Accessories Designed by Nanette Lepore, Anna Sui, and Isaac Mizrahi
The worlds of fashion and technology are becoming more and more intertwined. During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, Rebecca Minkoff accessorized her runway models with smart bracelets: one a gold chain-link piece that alerts wearers when they receive calls or texts from the key people in their lives, and the other a studded lighting cable bracelet with an iPhone-compatible USB that allows you to charge your device while on the run. Similarly, Opening Ceremony teamed up with Intel to create a new line of MICA smart bracelets with touch screen displays showcasing text messages and alerts. With wearable tech gadgets becoming more popular, it seems like the perfect time to give your favorite devices — be it your cell phone, e-reader, tablet, or laptop — a serious makeover. Enter the new line of tech accessories hitting Best Buy stores and BestBuy.com on October 5th, encompassing three lines created by fashion designers Nanette Lepore, Anna Sui and Isaac Mizrahi New York.
Each designer’s line incorporates printed snap-on cases for Apple iPhone 5 and 5S models, as well as cases for Samsung Galaxy S5 phones (a relief for those of us who want to dress up our mobile phones but find that most companies cater exclusively to iPhone users); scuff-resistant cases for tablet models like the Apple iPad, the Apple iPad Air, and the more compact Apple iPad Mini; and protective sleeves for laptop computers with up to 13″ displays. These gadget accessories are designed to not only safeguard your trusty devices but also to provide easy access to all buttons, camera lenses, and controls.
Not only are these tech accessories stylish, functional, and interchangeable, but they’re also affordable: the snap-on polycarbonate smartphone cases retail for $29.99, tablet cases made of polycarbonate and metallic fibers and featuring multiple stand options range from $34.99 to $39.99, and zip-top oil cloth laptop sleeves with plush interiors are priced at $39.99.

NANETTE LEPORE
Arguably the most extensive and splashiest line out of the three designers’ collections, Nanette Lepore’s designs feel Bohemian and luxurious, feminine and sophisticated, colorful and bold. This means paisley patterns in technicolor jewel tones, metallic gold feathers seemingly swaying against a black backdrops, sultry black lace floral print, deep amethyst-colored blossoms in undulating vines resembling the floral patterns ubiquitous in porcelain dishes, an abstract print with blurry clusters of bright colors resembling dissolving firework formations in a pitch black sky, a striped motif that combines laser-like lines in red, magenta, neon green, cyan blue, purple, and aubergine. ANNA SUI
Known for her retro-influenced, Bohemian chic aesthetic, fashion designer Anna Sui focused primarily on floral motifs with a vintage attitude when designing her line of tech accessories for Best Buy. The “Daisy Delight” print, for instance, features kitschy illustrations of the flowers most closely associated with the Hippie movement, their petals filled in with shades of aqua blue, white, or taupe-ish brown, and some of their leaves and stems filled in a fern green hue. The “Pop Florals” print adorning some of the smartphone and tablet cases, meanwhile, depicts scattered posies and daisies in a pale lavender pink hue with Pop Art-inspired splotches of white and black making the design more dynamic. A diamond plaid print in a retro aqua color combination and a cream-and-black print consisting of elongated hearts add even more of a nostalgic feel to the line,

ISAAC MIZRAHI
The iconic New York designer and TV personality chose his favorite patterns and prints when designing his line of tech accessories for Best Buy — which, of course, meant a plethora of stripes, polka dots, and artsy floral motifs. One Apple iPhone 5 case, for instance, comes in a baby pink shade with white polka dots, while an Apple iPad case features white spots atop a black backdrop. In terms of florals, patterns range from a vibrant watercolor rendition of poppy blossoms in shadowy grays, their leaves accentuated with surreal pops of acid green, magenta, and sunflower yellow, to a rendition of wispy, dandelion-esque blossoms in a deep magenta atop a white backdrop. For the gal who loves all things sparkly, meanwhile, the collection includes a glitter design consisting of a shimmering mound of metallic pink sequins.
