Taste The Rainbow — 21 Colorful Fashion Finds To Celebrate Pride Month
This weekend, in cities like San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Houston, Nashville, Cincinnati, Oklahoma City, and Seattle, members of the LGBTQ community will come together for their cities’ respective Pride parades, celebrations that seem all the more important during these turbulent times when so many politicians and lawmakers are trampling on the civil liberties of this very community.
Since Trump took office a year ago, a number of steps have been taken to essentially de-criminalize discriminatory actions against the LGBQT community. Bills have been passed to protect (and hence enable) narrow-minded government officials who refuse to perform same-sex marriages — all under the pretense of protecting these workers’ religious freedoms. President Trump has vowed not to let transgender individuals serve in the US military — a policy that is harrowingly unconstitutional and has raised question about both the future of new recruits and the fate of transgender troops already in the armed forces. The Department of Health and Human Services enacted a new regulation and created an agency, the Division of Conscience and Religious Freedom, that would effectively give nurses and doctors the right to deny medical services to members of the LGBTQ community should they cite religious or moral objections. The list of discriminatory policies and transphobic policy attempts goes on and on — even down to President Trump refusing to acknowledge Pride Month.
It’s up to us, then, to stand with out lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender brothers and sisters, to join them in the fight for equal rights, to create a society that’s built on love, compassion, respect, and solidarity. Our actions need to go beyond parades and “Love is Love” T-shirts, of course, but every bit of activism helps. So whether you’re gay, straight, bisexual, or pansexual, go on and check out a parade this weekend — and don’t forget to rock the rainbow. Glitter encouraged!
