If you’re always on the hunt for new beauty products, then you’ve likely heard about Birchbox, a buzz-y subscription service featuring monthly boxes filled with beauty samples that can, in turn, be purchased in full-size form at the brand’s accompanying e-commerce site (side note: you can purchase products at Birchbox.com even if you don’t partake in the subscription service). Launched in Fall 2010, Birchbox has grown to become one of the most successful beauty enterprises in recent years — and with good reason. For just $10/month, subscribers receive a customized Birchbox every 30 days, each featuring five beauty samples hand-picked to address their particular needs. This service allows women to familiarize themselves with different beauty products without having to commit to purchasing full-sized products. And, of course, if they become enamored with the contents of a particular Birchbox, they can then purchase the items at Birchbox.com. An added incentive: if they review all five samples in each Birchbox, customers receive Birchbox “points” which they can cash in when shopping for full-sized products at Birchbox.com. Pretty clever, right?

If you subscribe by May 24th, your first Birchbox delivery will be the an assortment of products hand-picked Emily Schuman, the mastermind behind the successful beauty, food, fashion, and lifestyle blog Cupcakes and Cashmere.

Now, the Cupcakes and Cashmere Birchbox shown above includes the following products: a 30 ml tube of the Living Proof Restore Instant Repair Repairing Lotion, which heals distressed strands and smooths unruly hair; a miniature 0.1 fl. oz. tube of the Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional, a balm-like primer that minimizes the appearance of pores and fine lines; a 0.35 oz. tube of the Prescriptives False Eyelashes Mascara, which gives lashes volume and coats them in a dramatic jet-black color; a sample of the Tocca Isabel Eau de Parfum, which features bergamot, sangria,Mediterranean orange, vanilla, and rose notes; and a miniature bottle of the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate, which helps to fortify the skin’s ability to defend itself against environmental aggressors through a blend of botanical ingredients like ginkgo biloba leaf extract, Japanese shiso leaf, and wild thyme.

Emily chose some of her favorite products (she discusses them in the video embedded above) for inclusion in these May Birchboxes but, since each box is personalized according to the needs of the customer in question, your particular delivery may include just two of Emily’s picks, along with three other suggested items that might interest you. For instance, I was sent a May Cupcakes and Cashmere Birchbox for review, and it included two of Emily’s all-time favorites: the Living Proof Restore Instant Repair Cream (which is phenomenal!), along with a 10ml sample of the Living Proof Restore Shampoo and a 10ml sample of the Living Proof Restore Conditioner (a special bonus!), and a 0.16 fl. oz bottle of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, a hydrating, electrolyte-infused mist that refreshes and preps skin prior to makeup application. It also included three additional samples chosen for me: a tiny tube of the English Laundry Notting Hill Femme fragrance, which features zesty bergamot and lemon notes alongside spicy peppercorn and wood notes; a 0.67 fl. oz. tube of the Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisturizer, formulated with 98% natural ingredients such as avocado, rosehip oil, sweet almond oil, and olive oil; and a travel-sized tube of the W3LL People The Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara, an all-natural mascara designed to lengthen and emphasize lashes.

First off, if you think the packaging in the photos at top looks adorable, it’s even cuter in person. The box itself features a fun geometric pattern with triangular shapes in shades of white, almond, peach, and tangerine, and it’s so darling that you’ll want to reuse it when organizing your closet, office space, kitchen, or living room area. And, of course, it features the Birchbox and Cupcakes and Cashmere logos inside an elongated hexagon with a mirrored gold finish.

Once you open the box, you’re greeted with a postcard featuring images of some of the many scrumptious dishes and beverages Emily has whipped up on her blog (or in her latest book, Cupcakes and Cashmere At Home), as well as a personal message from Emily regarding her “Elevate Everyday Life” motto and how it influences all the facets of her life — including her beauty routine. When you flip the postcard over, meanwhile, you find a detailed list of all the products within your Birchbox.

As for my particular box, here are some photos of the contents:

What’s in the orange packet, you ask? Well, that would be the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water and English Laundry Notting Hill Femme samples:

I’m already in love with the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water since it will prove to be a handy alternative to heavier creams and balms when temperatures rise over the summer season. Also, the Birchbox introduced me to Naobay, for which I’m extremely thankful since, even after only two uses, I’m beyond impressed by how smooth, revitalized, and energized my skin looks and feels after massaging this delightful-smelling and incredibly lightweight moisturizer. I’m not too fond of the English Laundry Notting Hill Femme scent or the W3LL People Mascara, but that’s the point of the experiment: to discover new brands and products and decide whether they’re a match for you or not!

The box also includes a Linguine Al’Arrabiata recipe from Emily’s new book, and two special promotions: first, Birchbox customers can get a free copy of Cupcakes and Cashmere at Home when they spend $55 at Birchbox.com; second, they can receive a yearly subscription to Domino magazine for only $12 (so, basically $1 a month!); and third, they can receive 15% off all purchases at Domino.com when they use the promo code listed.

Given the excellent choices Emily made for the Cupcakes and Cashmere Birchbox, chances are your own box will have at least 2-3 products you will absolutely love — and if you’re lucky, all 5 will be a hit! So, before you miss out on this great deal, visit Birchbox.com and sign up to receive your own Cupcakes and Cashmere Birchbox!
