Summer Shoe Trend Segment for Telemundo 47’s “Acceso Total NY”

acceso-total-shoedazzle-display

If I had to list a few of my favorite things,  melodically mentioning each as if staging my own version of Julie Andrews’ famous Sound of Music scene, there’s no question that shoes would replace some of Maria’s loves (maybe the “snowflakes that stay on your nose and eyelashes” since I’m not a fan of winter weather). So, of course, I was thrilled to sop by Telemundo 47’s Acceso Total yesterday to chat about some fun footwear trends! All of the shoes seen in the segment were provided by ShoeDazzle.com, and they all retail for under $50 so that the price points alone should make you a bit giddy! If you missed the show, you can watch the segment (embedded above) or click here! Still have questions about the styles featured or the trends I discussed? Well, let’s break everything down!

FUN-LOVING FRINGE

I kicked off the segment chatting about the Anissa by Scene sandals ($49.95 at ShoeDazzle.com), which speak to the current fascination with all things 1970s-influenced as manifested by fringe-adorned everything! These Bohemian-flavored beauties feature three layers of fringe along the vamp, an open toe, a mule-like silhouette with a wraparound ankle strap, and a straight 5″ heel. The turquoise color of the faux suede uppers, meanwhile, infuses a Southwestern vivacity into the style.

CRAZY ABOUT COLOR-BLOCKING

Next, I touched upon color-blocking, which has been a predominant trends for several seasons now without losing any steam. The tri-color Stasia by Scene sandals ($49.95 at ShoeDazzle.com) feature a graphic design comprised of triangular, diamond-shaped, or rectangular panels in either yellow or white, with black strips dividing each segment to create a more striking contrast. The cut-outs along the sides of the shoe, meanwhile, add a sexiness to the design that makes it feel Mod-inspired but firmly grounded in modernity.

SNAKE CHARMER

This enchanting Rosalind by Scene sandal ($49.95 at ShoeDazzle.com) will slither its way into your heart thanks to its faux snakeskin-covered, 1″-tall platform and reptilian 5.5″ heel, as well as the scaly print on the wide, quilted ankle strap. The crisscrossed straps along the front of the shoe, meanwhile, help to bring home the shoe’s jungle-ready feel.

SWEET MARY-JANE

TAISSA-by-madison-maryjanes

Once upon a time, we thought of Mary-Janes as the go-to shoes for school-aged girls with ruffle-adorned white socks and ribbons in their strands. Then, footwear designers decided to experiment with the silhouette, adding a sizable heel, decreasing the width of the signature ankle strap, and streamlining the toe to make it pointier and more coquettish. Now, grown-up and glamorous Mary-Janes are no longer a rarity, but their popularity waxes and wanes with the changing fashion tides. This summer and fall, however, they’ll be back in favor in a major way. Prepare to see white Mary-Janes well after Labor Day and flirtatious printed styles like these high-heeled Taissa by Madison pumps ($49.95 at ShoeDazzle.com), featuring a 4.5″ heel and a sweet plaid print.

TRIBAL TENDENCIES

Perfect for music festival season, the Tierney by Madison wedges ($49.95 at ShoeDazzle.com) feature fabric uppers with geometric motifs that boast a distinctly tribal feel. The punchy aqua, coral pink, and lemon yellow accent colors, meanwhile, give a frolicsome feel to the earthier cream and brown tones. A peep toe and almond-shaped cut-outs, meanwhile, allow feet to breathe and reveal a bit of sun-kissed skin which is, of course, a summertime essential.  The faux wood finish of the 1.25″ platform and 5″ wedge heel also helps to magnify the earthiness of this tall drink of water.

A BLOCK AWAY

If you can’t fathom the idea of wearing a completely flat sandal but you also can’t picture yourself teetering along city streets in sky-high stilettos, this will come as welcome news: chunky block heels are making a major comeback! This summer, try pairing your denim rompers and printed shorts with the Milos by Leila Stone sandals ($49.95 at ShoeDazzle.com), which feature a stacked heel and faux leather straps that combine classic sandal elements (an open toe, a cut-out along the vamp, and am open heel) with familiar bootie components (like an ankle cuff  and wrap-around straps with buckle closures).

SIMPLY SAID

The current resurgence of 1970s-inspired Bohemian fashions has brought with it a renewed emphasis on minimalism, as showcased by this simple Oahu by Leila Stone sandal ($35.98 at ShoeDazzle.com), with its no-fuss slip-on design. The sandal is comprised of thin faux leather straps with gold-toned stud and crystal accents, and it features a woven outsole reminiscent of an espadrille for a beach-ready vibe.

TO THE POINT

When it comes to flats, the rounded toes of past seasons of ballerina slippers have been replaced by pointier designs. Also notable: intricate, vivacious prints are now in vogue. In the segment, I showcased two beautiful options: the Callie by Madison ($39.95 at ShoeDazzle.com), a slip-on flat with an intriguing butterfly print featuring deeply saturated colors; and the Makenda by ShoeDazzle ($39.95 at ShoeDazzle.com), a more casual design with fabric uppers featuring a navy-and-white Ikat print, a thin ankle strap, and a white rubber sole.
