Sprayground Laptop And iPad Sleeves Make Technology A Playground

As technology becomes more deeply entrenched in our daily lives, and we find ourselves constantly reaching for our phones, iPads, and laptops, our desire to persona

lize these devices also increases — whether it’s via intricate wallpaper designs on our home screens or carrying cases that convey our sense of personal style. Nowadays, both women and men seem to invest as much energy into finding the right iPhone case and laptop sleeve as they do unearthing the perfect pair of shoes.  In fact, luxury labels like Kate Spade, Chanel, Ted Baker, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Fendi, Michael Kors, and jewelry line Dannijo have all unveiled iPad cases fashioned out of premium leather, ostrich and alligator skins, calf hair, and suede — some bearing price tags of up to $5000. Those of us who can’t quite afford a $5000 iPad cover (and who realize that’s equivalent to owning about 10 iPads), however, don’t have to abandon the idea of giving our tech gadgets a style upgrade. Enter Sprayground, a lifestyle brand specializing in backpacks, laptop bags, phone covers and carrying cases, and tablet sleeves that exude a sense of whimsy and wit.

Launched by Miami native Ben David, Sprayground boasts an aesthetic rooted in urban art, surf culture, and  modern design, so that each bag manages to feel irreverent, quirky, and unexpected. Laptop sleeve designs, for example, include the Sprayground The Gold Brick Sleeve ($45 for either the 13″ or 15″ size), shown at top, which is crafted out of a water-resistant polyester fabric with a sleek metallic sheen, a velour-lined padded main compartment to protect your laptop from scratches and bumps, reinforced zippers, and hidden handles. In order to play up the gold brick motif, the laptop sleeve is embossed with the words “Fine Gold,” followed by the number “999.9” and  the phrase “Net Wt 1000g.” Another great option is the Hello Laptop Sleeve ($40 for 13″ or 15″ sizes), available in either the black model show below or the camo print pictured above. These laptop bags riff on the “Hello My Name Is” stickers so often passed out at conferences, classrooms, meetings, and mixers. Like the self-adhesive name tags, then, the bags feature a wide white stripe running diagonally along the front panel, practically beckoning the bag’s owner to reach for a marker and jot his or her name therein. Hidden top handles, a top zipper, and additional concealed zipper compartments make these cases all the more functional.

Similarly, the brand offers a number of playful tablet sleeves, among them the Controller iPad Sleeve ($35), pictured third above, which measures 8.5″ x 10.5″and features a unique printed design that resembles a video game controller thanks to a horizontal strip of blue, green, and red buttons, a directional cross, and a square screen with the words “Game Over” printed against the gradient green backdrop and a virtual web of cracks fanning out from the top left-hand corner of the screen and extending to the bottom rim. Another great pick: the Bullets iPad Sleeve ($40), shown second above, a play on the idea of a bulletproof case. This design is made of a polyester fabric with a digital print capturing a virtual stockpile of two-toned Ak47 bullets — an ideal print for all of you style soldiers.
