Sleep to Dream with Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II

The only thing I dislike about the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II ($62 at EsteeLauder.com and Estée Lauder counters) is that, sooner or later, it will run out and, sadly, there will be no free refills. I kid, of course, but you get the point: this is one of those products that proves to be so effective that it’s nearly impossible to find fault with it.

First, this product brings new meaning to the term “beauty sleep,” working as you catch some Z’s to prod the skin’s cellular renewal process. Estée Lauder has been at the forefront of nighttime repair skincare treatments for over three decades, ever since it introduced its Night Repair serum in 1982. Packaged in a now-iconic brown bottle with an apothecary-style dropper, the EL Night Repair serum pioneered the evening repair skin care category — and, as the years have passed, its formula has been improved to include even more advanced technologies that reflect the latest DNA and chronobiology research.

So what’s different about the new Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II? Well, the formula was developed around new findings in regards to catabolysis, a purification process whereby skin cells eliminate internal debris that could lead to cellular damage and thus to premature aging. As we age, the skin’s catabolysis repair process slows down but, luckily, Estée Lauder has discovered a way to give it a bit of a boost. The serum’s ChronoluxCBTM Technology, then, includes a complex incorporating ingredients like yeast extract and algae extract, which boost skin cells’  natural catabolysis, thereby helping cells perform more efficiently. This is then combined with the brand’s ChronoluxTM technology, a clock gene technology that helps support the natural synchronization of the skin’s nighttime renewal process. This technology was developed based on research that revealed the existence of human clock genes within the skin. Like all our organs, the skin can distinguish between day and night, and its cells operate on an internal clock of sorts, a circadian rhythm. According to EL’s researchers, the skin’s cells go on overdrive at night, producing proteins helping to repair DNA damage and removing alkyl pollutants, which emerge as the direct result of contact with environmental pollutants that ravage the outermost lipid layers of the skin. Our skin naturally produces alkyl guanine, an enzyme that removes alkyl pollutants but again, as we age, the production of this enzyme slows down, leaving skin more vulnerable to free radical damage. By incorporating Alkyl Guanine Transferase into its serum’s formula, Estée Lauder scientists found that they could boost the performance of these alkyl guanine enzymes and, in doing so, strengthen the skin and repair any prior damage. To complete its near-magical elixir, Estée Lauder scientists incorporated hyaluronic acid, which hydrates the skin and makes it reach its ideal moisture balance, and a blend of anti-oxidants that work to neutralize UV rays and harmful pollutants.

The Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II promises to leave your skin looking younger, firmer, and more radiant — and it succeeds on all fronts. Not only will you see a difference in terms of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but you’ll notice your skint one appears more even and any blemishes, rashes, or imperfections are minimized (perhaps as a byproduct of the purification process the serum triggers). I’ve had days when my skin seemed to be rebelling against me, when I was grappling with evil breakouts or minor irritations, and after applying this serum and getting a good night’s rest, I awoke to significantly clearer, more luminous skin. I couldn’t believe the difference one evening had done! Forget Folger’s — this was the best part of waking up!

Ideally, you want to apply the serum to clean dry skin at night, before applying your night cream of choice. The serum has a very light consistency and it’s readily absorbed by the skin, so you need not worry about your visage feeling greasy or balmy. In fact, the sensation is rather pleasant — as if skin were being irrigated from within.

Needed another reason to catch up on your sleep? Well, this is it!
