Silver Belles — The Beauty Look At Marissa Webb FW16
Makeup artist Gato served as Maybelline New York’s key makeup artist at the Marissa Webb Fall 2016 show during New York Fashion Week. He was inspired to create a look that felt distinctively wintry — glacial even — and yet exuded strength and elegance, relying on a silver eye and a rich burgundy look to create this feat.
To create the look, he started by applying the Maybelline New York Dream Velvet foundation to models’ complexions so as to offer lightweight and seamless coverage with a demure demi-matte finish. To widen eyes, he applied the Dream Lumi Touch Concealer below the eyes so as to conceal any dark circles and also create a soft-focus, light-diffusing, brightening effect. Once he’d created the base for the look, Gato proceeded to contour models’ faces using the Face Studio Master Contour Palette, applying the bronze shade along the hollows of cheekbones, sweeping it along the jawline, and working it into the sides of the nose, then using the blush shade to add a rosy and youthful touch to cheeks. Next, he turned his attention to highlighting key areas or “strobing,” relying on the Master Strobe Illuminating Stick in Porcelain (launching in June 2016), which is packaged in a portable tune akin to that of the Master Glaze Blush Stick. He applied the Master Strobe color liberally to cheekbones, and brushed it into the inner corners of eyes as well as into the cupid’s bow above the lips.
Moving on to the eyes, Gato began by prepping lids with the Master Prime Long-Lasting Base in Prime + Matte, which creates a smooth canvas and eliminates any excess shine. For the strong graphic eye look, Gato started by tracing a thick line of the Eye Studio Gel Liner in Blackest Black along the upper lid, right by the lash line. Next, he added the icy metallic touch by layering the Color Tattoo Liquid Chrome in Silver Spark (launching in June 2016) atop the liner, brushing it over the black liner but focusing only on the center of the eye as opposed to covering the base black layer from the inner to the outer corner. He also drew a silver line below the bottom lash line, extending about a third of the way from the inner corners of the eyes to the outer corners t. To complete the eye look, he brushed the Colossal Spider Lash Mascara (launching in May 2016) to lashes, smudging it into the root of the eyelashes for a slightly worn-in effect.
The bold lip, meanwhile, was created with the Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lip Color (launching in June 2016), a new array of richly pigmented, intrepid shades, opting for the Raging Raising hue and using a lip brush to yield a very precise and well-defined look.
This is one look any gal can recreate at home, and yet it’s fun, distinctive, and modern.
