Bedazzled brows have been a somewhat common runway occurrence since Chanel’s Fall 2012 show, when models stormed the runway with sequin-covered strips resembling encrusted crystals covering their arches. Then, for Spring 2014, Dior gave models gilded brows, with each hair looking as if it has been dipped in molten gold. And who can forget Rodarte’s pierced eyebrows for Spring 2015? Well, ladies, it seems that embellished brows are, indeed, becoming a “thing.” The good news: unlike most of the aforementioned looks, which couldn’t truly transition from the runway to the street (save for Rodarte’s look, which you can see on many a girl chilling in the LES), some of the latest iterations aren’t quite as extreme and, hence, are significantly more practical. Case in point: the sequin-adorned brows at the Sally LaPointe SS16 show, which added the requisite “wow” factor to an otherwise muted and delicate makeup look.

James Kaliardos spearheaded the MAC Cosmetics team, creating the look for the show, which he characterized as that of an “ethereal rebel.” To get the look, he focused primarily on creating a fresh-looking and dewy complexion, starting by applying the MAC Prep + Prime Moisture Infusion and blending it into models’ skin to instantly hydrate and refresh their visages. Next, to obtain a bit of coverage and add texture to the skin, he applied the MAC Studio Face and Body Foundation, lightly buffing it over the skin, and applied the Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer as needed to disguise any spots, blemishes, dark circles, or other imperfections. To contour the skin ever so subtly, he then used the MAC Pro Sculpt Sculpting Powder Pro Palette, focusing on emphasizing the cheekbones. And, since strobing is the new contouring, Kaliardos focused on accentuating the areas of the face naturally struck by light such as the cheekbones, the ridge of the nose, and the chin, using the MAC Peach Strobe Cream Shade Extension (available Winter 2016).

On eyes, meanwhile, Kaliardos applied the “On My Watchlist” shade from the MAC Trend Forecast Spring 16/Eye Palette (available Spring 2016), a creamy and semi-sheer taupe shade with a hint of pink shimmer, softly blending the hue over the eyelid with the 224 Tapered Blending Brush. He then finished the look with a wash of the Fly By Twilight Foiled Shadow (available Spring 2016). To fill and perfect brows, he used the Lingering Big Brow Pencil (available in Spring 2016) and then embellished the very ends of brows with golden sequins.

Since the brows made such a strong statement, Kaliardos kept the lip look very minimal, applying the MAC Promise Me Velvetease Lip Pencil (available Spring 2016) on models’ pouts and blending it over the lip for a soft, natural look with just a hint of pink.

The nail look, meanwhile, created by Rita Remark for essie, also consisted of a minimalist palette with a bit of a twist. Models were given sandy beige nails but, for an unexpected and youthful touch, their ring fingers and pinkies were coated with a metallic gold shade, adding an interesting juxtaposition of colors and textures.

To create the look, Remark started by prepping nails with the essie First Base Top Coat, then applied two coats of the essie Sand Tropez nail lacquer, a creamy buff beige hue, finishing the look with a coat of essie’s Good To Go Top Coat. On the “accent” nails, meanwhile, she used the essie Jiggle High, Jiggle Low nail lacquer, which is a metallic gold with a mirror-like sheen.
