Savor Fluid Perfection With The New Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Lipstick Shades

Some people salivate as they smell the molten chocolate oozing out of a lava cake, but my knees go week for another sweet and fluid treat: liquid lipstick! I’m particularly fond of Too Faced’s Melted Liquified Lipsticks since they come in an array of edgy and adventurous shades, last for hours, and never dry out your pout. But, as someone who tends to prefer a matte lip to one with a satin or glittery finish, I’ve been anticipating a new iteration of Too Faced’s liquid lipstick, one that develops a shine-free finish as it dries down. Ever the beauty genie, Too Faced granted my wishes by releasing the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Lipstick ($21 each at TooFaced.com), which features an aqueous formula that looks wet and slick when first applied to lips but which dries to a matte finish that’s fully opaque and saturated with color. Moreover, the liquid lipstick lasts for hours without cracking, flaking, or making lips look shriveled, wrinkly, and prune-like thanks to a combination of skin-softening avocado oil, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid spheres that bind moisture to lips and create a filling effect. This season, Too Faced has introduced six new shades to its Melted Matte collection: Wicked, a dazzling malachite green hue; Suck It, a mauve brown blend that reminds me of the California Claret paint color; Holy Chic!, a nude shade so light that it borders on French vanilla; Jawbreaker, an electric pink lavender; Granny Panties, a moody greige; and Wine Not?, a vamp-y Bordeaux wine shade.

I had the chance to try out all six shades, and there are some real gems in there!

First, check out swatches of Wicked, Suck It, and Holy Chic!:

As you can see, the Wicked shade is the most adventurous and fashion-forward and, while the green hue might intimidate some, I found it surprisingly flattering! As for the Suck It hue, it’s got enough brown pigments to remind me of the ’90s tawny lip trend (which has made a comeback) but these are balanced by mauve undertones that make the color a bit more universally flattering. It’s a color I can imagine Drew Barrymore or Julia Roberts wearing in the ’90s! As for Holy Chic!, the nude shade is so light that it can wash out those who are fair-skinned (like myself) but definitely has the potential to pop on those with medium-to-dark skin tones.

I am completely obsessed with the Jawbreaker shade  — it totally makes me think of the satirical cult movie, starring Rose McGowan, Julie Benz, and Rebecca Gayheart. I also adore the Wine Not? shade since it’s more of a full-bodied Bordeaux color than what we traditionally see and hence it has a more gothic and almost dangerous feel. As for Granny Panties, the name of the shade is hilarious, but the color is nothing to scoff at: it’s pretty much a Kylie Jenner-esque selfie waiting to happen. In other words, it’s bold, unexpected, and chic.

Next up, you can see how the Suck It color looks on lips. Interestingly enough, when I swatched the color, it seemed that the lipstick’s brown tones where most dominant but, once I applied it, the mauve pigments came to the forefront. On lips, then, the Suck It shade looks like more of a deep rum raisin hue. See for yourself:

Last, you’ll find some photos of me wearing the Holy Chic! shade, which I must admit was the least flattering on me out of all six colors. In and of itself, there’s nothing wrong with the shade, but on someone a fair-skinned as me, it can essentially work like concealer, neutralizing the lips’ natural pink tones and making the complexion look flat and lifeless.
