Rihanna Says “Work!” — The Singer Debuts A Performance-Minded Trainer Through Her PUMA Fenty Label
Rihanna may just do for PUMA what Missy Elliott and Kanye West once did for Adidas, turning her Fenty label into a money-making enterprise that further blurs the line between the lifestyle, fitness, and fashion realms. Her PUMA by Rihanna Creeper — a fresh take on the classic PUMA Suede featuring a pronounced, ridged, platform rubber outsole — sold out within days, and her newest design, The Trainer, is certain to follow in its predecessor’s footsteps.
Unlike The Creeper, a lifestyle-minded sneaker that nodded to a classic silhouette but included a punk rock twist for a modern attitude, The Trainer boasts a futuristic, unprecedented design while also offering some performance-boosting features. The shoe’s uppers are constructed from Ariaprene, an advanced form of neoprene that envelops the foot for a snug and sock-like feel while also offering greater breathability. Other features include: an extra-tall tongue that provides lateral stability and keeps ankles secure; a TPU cage with a reflective underlay that enhances visibility when running at night or in low-lit conditions; a full-length sole with flex grooves for more intuitive movement; a pivot point that allows for 360-degree movement; and solid rubber outsoles that offer traction.
On a fashion front, The Trainer exudes the same fearless, rebellious, risk-taking energy we’ve come to associate with Rihanna thanks to its exaggerated proportions — after all, the tongue isn’t just tall, it’s sky high! The textural juxtapositions, meanwhile, provide a level of intrigue to a solid-colored design — from the metallic feel and the symmetrical perforations of the shiny TPU cage to the diamond pattern of the matte fabric uppers and the ribbon-like trim along the center of the tongue (which is finished with a handy loop for greater pull-on convenience). The lace-less design and the strategic placement of the logo also emphasize the modernity of the design.
Available in either Black, Red, or White, The Trainer drops tomorrow, February 26th, at 10 am. Log onto Puma.com bright and early to pick up your pair!
