Punk-Flavored Plaid Look With A Western Twist — What I Wore On Day 6 Of New York Fashion Week Spring 2015

This season, we’ll see more plaid, tartan, and houndstooth prints on the streets than we would inside Gwen Stefani’s closet! But while plaids can reference everything from aristocratic country club members and equestrian enthusiasts to schoolgirls in checkered uniforms, rugged lumberjacks and outdoor adventurers, holiday dress-up ensembles, and punk rocker stage outfits, I personally favor them only in their most defiant iteration. In other words, if I’m going to wear plaid, I’m going to make the look as rock ‘n’ roll as possible!

For Day 6 of New York Fashion Week, then, I slipped into a sleeveless Free People maxi dress with a classic red plaid print and ruffled trim adorning the V-shaped neckline and trimming the bust line. To give the dress a punk feel, I ditched the heels in favor of Sam & Libby black patent leather combat boots with pronounced round toes and chunky soles and added a silver-toned chainmail bracelet from Mixology NYC. I also kept the makeup moody and fun with smoky eyes, thick black liner, and a bold red pout.

Since I’m loving the urban cowgirl look of the season, I decided to infuse some of those Western elements into the look by wearing a black Brixton hat (purchased from NastyGal.com) and a silver-toned Turkish coin necklace I purchased for $68 from Electric West’s shop on Etsy.com. Since the necklace and hat made such a major statement, I kept the earrings simple, opting to wear glossy black ball studs.
