Prepare To Crave the MAC Cosmetics “Oh, Sweetie!” Lipcolour Collection
What’s more appealing when tasting a cupcake: the sponginess and moistness of the cake itself or the sweet and creamy flavor of the frosting on top? For me, it’s always been about the oft-technicolor, perfectly piped, creamy glaze sitting atop that baked treat like a technicolor crown. If you share my love for frosted cupcakes, iced sugar cookies, colorful macarons, and rainbow sprinkles, along with my obsession with fun-loving and bright lip color shades, then new MAC Cosmetics Oh, Sweetie Lipcolour collection will have you feeling as giddy as Homer Simpson diving into a sea of donuts. The lip colors are as playful and bold as those found in the Care Bears’ Care-A-Lot world, as eye-popping and alluring as those in the oh-so-addictive Candy Crush game. And, because they feature a lightweight but indulgent mousse-like texture, there’s a decadence to these lip colors. And here’s the best part: these liquid lippies quite literally smell good enough to eat, with each shade bearing a unique scent inspired by a sweet concoction. Remember scratch-and-sniff stickers? Well, they’ve got nothing on these lip colors! The moment you glide the sponge-tip applicator over your lips, your nose will detect a patisserie-worthy aroma and that scent might cause your brain to release endorphins that lift your mood and add a pep to your step to match the pop on your pout. j
There are 15 lip colors in the MAC Cosmetics Oh, Sweetie! collection, each one retailing for $17 at MACcosmetics.com. I had the chance to try 7 of the shades: Gumdrop, Sugar Cookies, Wild Berry Frosting, Raspberry Cream, Funfetti Cake, Purple Panna Cotta, and Strawberry Torte. Each one’s scent corresponds to the candy or dessert after which it was named so that, for instance, the Sugar Cookies shade does have a scent reminiscent of a classic sugar cookie with a traditional icing made using milk, sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract, while the Raspberry Cream shade features a juicy berry scent reminiscent of a fruit-flavored mousse or cake filling.
Below, check out swatches of Raspberry Cream, a fun fuchsia with blue pearl; Strawberry Torte, a candy apple red with an almost mirror-like sheen; Funfetti Cake, a pearlescent white with multi-color pearl; and Wild Berry Frosting, a turquoise color that reminds me of blue raspberry gummy rings.
As you’ll notice from the pics above, all four shades offer complete coverage and are fully opaque, which is beyond important with a collection that’s all about indulgences rather than compromises. This isn’t necessarily a collection for those who are timid and demure when it comes to their makeup choices, and that’s precisely why I love it! Instead, this collection speaks to gals like myself whose makeup collections look a bit like the interior of a Dylan’s Candy Bar store.
Next up, check out swatches of Gumdrop, a honeysuckle pink color with a touch of shimmer; Purple Panna Cotta, a cool lilac hue reminiscent of blackberry ice cream (or, more to the point, of blackberry panna cotta!); and Sugar Cookies, a light opalescent pink that reminds me of the edible decorative pearls used to adorn tiered cakes.
