Pillow Might — Loloi Rugs And Rifle Paper Co. Create A Pillow To Raise Money For Hurricane Relief Efforts
As Coach Taylor taught us in Friday Night Lights, “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” — and that adage proves true in realms completely unrelated to football, such as philanthropy. In the aftermath of a particularly destructive hurricane season that left millions in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands displaced, their dwellings and belongings destroyed, many scrambling for access to food and drinking water, the full-hearted folks at Dallas, Texas-based Loloi Rugs decided they needed to go beyond prayers and warm thoughts and develop a plan of action that would bring tangible assistance to these different communities.
They reached out to their friends at the Winter Park, Florida based company Rifle Paper Co., which began as a stationery company in 2009 and has then expanded to become a lifestyle brand that offers such an array of items as phone cases, totes, candles, coasters, recipe boxes, printed journals and address books, and file folders. The idea: to collaborate on a pillow design and have the proceeds from the sale of the pillow be donated to Habitat for Humanity so it could continue its rebuilding efforts in Florida, Texas, and Puerto Rico.
The end result is the limited-edition Texas Wildflower Pillow ($59 at RiflePaperCo.com), a decorative throw pillow made of 100% cotton and measuring 18″ x 18.” The pillow features a screen-printed design based on an original illustration by Rifle Paper Co. co-founder Anna Bond that showcases the state of Texas, its area covered by beautiful blooms inspired by the wildflowers that grow in the area: bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush flowers, pink evening primrose blossoms, tall goldenrods, cinnamon ferns, blackfoot daisies, verbenas, and wild phlox among them. To reinvent the design within a more tactile context, the Texas outline was screen-printed by hand onto each pillow, and then the wildflowers were hand-embroidered as as to give the pillow a three-dimensional quality and add a juxtaposition of textures.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of this charming pillow will be donated to Hurricane for Humanity as it continues to help the areas affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.
See? Clear eyes and full hearts always triumph.
