Go From Learner To Master With New Covergirl Star Wars Makeup Collection
A long time ago (okay, like 20 years ago), in a galaxy far, far away (well, an island in the Caribbean), a young girl watched Star Wars: Episode IV with her dad and made some pivotal life decisions: first, that she seriously needed to get some light sabers so she could properly battle against her brother when they got into arguments; second, that she’d now start wearing side buns like Princess Leia; third, that she’d one day go to space (an idea that she’d already entertained after a very special Punky Brewster episode involving astronauts); and fourth, that she’d find her own Obi-Wan to help guide her through life and teach her how to harness the force. Yes, this wide-eyed young girl was me and, though I’ve abandoned the idea of any space-bound journeys and retired the donut-like side buns from my hairstyling repertoire, I still love the original Star Wars trilogy as ferociously as I did back then. In fact, I’m considering buying the Sphero Star Wars BB-8 robot toy since I always wanted my own R2-D2 and this is about as close as I can get!
There was definitely an awakening in me, then, when Covergirl announced it would be releasing a limited edition Star wars collection, consisting of 10 Super Sizer by LashBlast Mascaras, each in a black tube with a Star Wars quote emblazoned across it in a galactic silver font; 6 new Colorlicious Lipsticks, all packaged in sleek black tubes with the film logo in silver lettering; and 3 Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Glosses with logo-adorned caps.
Die-hard collectors will, of course, want to scoop up as many mascaras as they can since the quotes alone make them irresistible. The 10 mascaras in the collection are divided into 5 Light Side offerings and 5 Dark Side offerings. All of the Light Side mascaras are black and waterproof and each features a quote from either Yoda, Princess Leia, or Han Solo. The five quotes allotted for the Light Side mascaras are: “May The Force Be With You;” “Do, Or Do Not, There Is No Try;” “You’re My Only Hope,” “I Feel The Good In You;” and “Luminous Beings Are We.” The Dark Side mascaras, meanwhile, are also black (albeit not waterproof) and feature one of the following quotes: “I Will Finish What You Started;” “There Has Been An Awakening;” “Indeed You Are Powerful;” “You Will Meet Your Destiny;” and “Immune To The Light.” Packaging aside, all the mascaras feature the same formulation as all standard Covergirl Super Sizer by LashBlast Mascaras so, if you’re curious about product performance, check out our review here.
Those of us who love Star Wars and new, bold makeup, meanwhile, will more likely be seduced by the six new Colorlicious shades in the collection: Nude #70, Red #30, Dark Purple #50, Silver #10, Gold #40, and Lilac #20. I tried out the 10, 30, and 50 shades and fell in love with them all! Below, check out swatches of these lipstick hues:
As you hopefully saw above, the #30 Red shade has a blue base so that it’s more of a berry-esque color than a fiery shade, which works nicely for the fall and winter months. What makes it dynamic, however, are the specks of metallic red shimmer that add that otherworldly, cosmic allure. The #50 shade, meanwhile, is perfectly on trend for Fall 2015, when vampy lips will be making a major comeback. This dark mulberry shade has a lustrous finish that makes it look slick and edgy on the pout. As for the #10 Silver hue, it’s definitely the most avant-garde shade of the three, but it’s also surprisingly wearable — on lips, the silver color looks like more of a soft lilac hue but it retains that steely, robotic, metallic element that makes it so novel.
Below, check out a few photos in which I’m wearing the Covergirl Star Wars collection Colorlicious Lipstick in #10:
Next, check out some super casual photos where I’m wearing the Red #30 color:
I can definitely see myself wearing these shades in the coming seasons. The silver lipstick, while not necessarily designed to be an everyday lip look, can be blended and layered with other colors to create some pretty stunning pinks and purples. Below, you’ll find a great example. In the photo shown, you’ll find a swatch showcasing what the Colorlicious 327 Bombshell Explosion looks like normally and, right above that swatch, an example of what happens when you blend that shade with the Covergirl Star Wars #10 Silver lipstick:
Also, check out how you can transform the 330 Divine shade (as seen below):
For an even simpler transformation, try lining your lips with a pink or purple lip pencil then applying the #10 lipstick shade over it. The possibilities, like the galaxy that inspired this and all of the Colorlicious lipsticks in the collection, are endless!
May the Beauty Force be with you.
