My New York Fashion Week Street Steez — What I Wore On Day 1
The last two weeks have been an absolute whirlwind — two features due for LATINA magazine, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, our Valentine’s Day Gift Guide, a TV segment on Telemundo, and, of course, the regular everyday mommy duties (feed my little man, take him to school, check homework, and so on). I’ve been trying my hardest to post as often as possible and to keep you readers filled in on various New York Fashion Week runway shows; the hair, nail and makeup looks created backstage; and my Fall 2013 style and beauty trend predictions; but I haven’t been quite as diligent about sharing photos of the looks I put together for NYFW — and, as we wall know, the street style during this week-long event is sometimes as exciting as the spectacles inside Lincoln Center. So, with that being said, I decided to share these photos of the outfit I wore to Day 1 of New York Fashion Week.
It was pretty chilly that day, as the awful blizzard dubbed Nemo was about to barrel down on the Northeast, so I decided to layer as cleverly as possible and to go for a bit of an ice princess look but with a Bohemian twist that felt truer to my own personal aesthetic.
I’d been dying to wear my Eugenia Kim Greta 1 knit hat (currently on sale for $60 at EugeniaKim.com), a two-toned turban that’s remarkably warm and chic, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity. And since the turban recalls Central Asia, I decided to wear my white Anna Sui coat, which I purchased over 10 years ago at a consignment store. The coat has this amazing floral embroidery all along the side panels, a single-breasted collar covered in faux fur, and red sleeves with tribal-flavored embroidery. Under the coat, meanwhile, I wore a snug, faux V-neck knit top from Style & Co. and layered a white Candela duster sweater with a ruffled hemline over it, then paired these with a pair of slightly flared trousers from H&M in a blue-toned red shade.
I finished the look by accessorizing with my Dolce Vita fur-trimmed ankle boots, a pair of oversize hoop earrings with dangling coin-shaped charms, some sequin-adorned Amrita Singh bangles, a square gold-toned metal ring purchased from a street vendor, and a Melinda Maria ring with elliptical cut-out shapes and rows of red-toned stones between each cut-out. And, since I tend to carry my entire life inside my purse, I opted for my roomy Romygold hobo bag, which features knotted accents at the base of the shoulder straps and slim gold-toned metal plaques at the base of the bag.
The outfit was apparently a hit with streetgazers lurking outside Lincoln Center since I was snapped by quite a few photogs and was even dubbed a “Street Style Star” by the NY Daily News (check out the post here).
As for my makeup, I kept it fairly simple, applying the Hourglass No. 28 Primer and Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer (which I think of as a power combination since they make skin look luminous and radiant) and then attained fuller coverage by applying the Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Foundation. Next, I applied a bit of NARS Orgasm Blush to my cheeks. As or my eyes, I created an understated look with a combination of light coral, sandy taupe, and gold eyeshadows, which I blended vey thoroughly. I then lined my eyes with a dark brown Eye Rimz pencil from Laura Geller and smudged it a bit along the lashline. Next, I applied three coats of the Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara. But, of course, the main aspect of my makeup look was the strong lip, which I attained using the OCC Makeup Super NSFW Lip Tar, a gilded red shade from the brand’s Metallurgy collection.
