My New York Fashion Week Steez — What I Wore On Day 3
The proverbial curtain officially came down on New York Fashion Week on Thursday, February 14th, a fitting day given that we were kissing the festivities goodbye. Over the next few days, I’ll be providing you with the last NYFW-related posts and officially wrap up my coverage — and, that of course, includes filling you ladies in on some of the fun I myself had while attending shows at Lincoln Center, Milk Studios, Eyebeam Studios, and Avery Fisher Hall. Getting dressed to hit the shows was particularly hard this season given that, not only was it insanely cold outside, but we had to grapple with Nemo’s fury. The outfit shown here, in fact, was worn the day after the blizzard, so you’ll notice the mounds of snow behind me in many of the shots. In the morning, the area in front of Lincoln Center was still treacherously slippery but, as the day continued and the sun emerged, much of the snow melted, cleaning crews plowed and shoveled snow, and fashionistas rejoiced over being able to wear their high-heeled pumps and boots again without having to teeter at a pace resembling a crawl.
As for me, seeing as I’m all of 5’0″ and rarely ever wear flat shoes (I literally just bought my first pair of flats this year!), I opted to rock a pair of Sergio Rossi boots in a rusty, reddish brown color. The boots have a pointy toe, a slouchy shaft, and a slim heel, so I was admittedly concerned about their appropriateness for a post-blizzard situation but, then again, I’ve never been one to be bogged down by practicalities.
It was really cold that day, with temperatures hitting the low teens in the evening, so I made sure to bundle accordingly. I opted for a printed purple, ochre, golden yellow, and russet brown W118 by Walter Baker Dress with a secretary style neckline with slim ties that could be knotted into a bow along the collar, long billowing sleeves cuffed at the wrists, and a fitted waist. I also made sure to double up on tights, wearing two pairs of opaque brown HUE stockings. It sounds excessive, but it makes a huge difference in terms of keeping you warm in the cold. I then layered a chunky, mustard yellow sweater coat from Banana Republic over the dress — a piece I’ve had for years and which I love thanks to the oversize buttons along its center, the waist tie belt, the roomy pockets along the sides, and the exaggerated collar, which folds over to create a shawl-like effect.
As for my coat, I went for a vintage suede and fur coat that I bought from a consignment store back in my college days. It’s a great coat in that it’s glamorous but feels like it has all this history to it — and, of course, the fur covering the lapels and adorning the cuffs is snug and delicious.
On the accessories front, I opted for a floppy navy blue hat from GAP, a pair of Kendra Scott earrings with rectangular purple stones, two Lia Sophia rings, and Rustico’s Burgundy Explorer Satchel, a simple, leather cross-body bag in a rectangular shape.
And, of course, to complete my Lady in Purple theme, I went for a plummy pout which I obtained by combining MAC’s Purple Rite Lipstick with Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist lipstick in 12, and OCC’s Lip Tar in Demure.
