Must-Have Beauty Gadgets — As Seen On “Great Day Houston”
Some folks’ eyes widen when they see ads for the latest Amazon smart speaker or Google Home device. They excitedly research about the latest advances in 3D printing (like metal printing). They scour through blogs to find out about the newest, soon-to-be-released smartphone and wearable fitness tech device. Me? I appreciate all of these advances but, not surprisingly, I tend to focus my attention on a very specific type of technology: beauty gadgets. I stopped by “Great Day Houston” recently to chat about some of the most exciting beauty tech out there — from wearable light therapy devices that kick wrinkles to the curb to at-home microdermabrasion devices and automated makeup brushes. Make sure to watch the segment above (or click here to view) and read on for more details on the products showcased on air!
iDerma Youth Restoring Masque
Before you make any quips about Jason Voorhees and his iconic Friday the 13th masks, let me remind you that this anti-aging wonder isn’t meant to be worn outside so you won’t be instilling fear in any teenagers frolicking around a campsite! This device is the iDerma Youth Restoring Masque by Apira Science ($349 at idermaskincare.com), and it’s designed to help reduce visible aging skins, improve the skin’s texture, and even out the skin tone. The device is hands-free and wearable (it has a comfortable, cushioned headband that encircles the crown of the head and you can adjust the headband’s size so it fits snugly on your head), and it uses 128 visible red and invisible infrared LED lights that increase the skin’s production of fibroblasts and collagen, energize skin cells, and boost cellular regeneration so as to help repair damaged skin tissue.
Each treatment is just 8 minutes long and the device shuts off automatically once your session is complete — even better, it comes with handy controls so that, if you need to pause your treatment to answer the door or grab a phone call, you can do so and then resume the session. If you use the device 3 times a week, you’ll see results within 30-60 days.
Trophy Skin Mini MD Microdermabrasion Tool
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that typically uses tiny crystals to exfoliate the skin, removing that superficial layer of dry and dead skin cells. It helps to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, give skin more of a glow, reduce the appearance of age spots and acne marks, and minimize pores. But if you go to a dermatologist, microdermabrasion treatments get pricy fast.
Instead, you can use the Trophy Skin Mini MD ($99 at TrophySkin.com), an at-home microdermabrasion tool that uses the exact same technique that was previously available only at dermatologist offices and medical spas. It’s really compact and fits comfortably in the palm of the hand, it has a natural diamond tip that lasts 3-6 months, and it has two adjustable suction settings. Each treatment takes only 5 minutes — talk about efficient!
Dr. Dennis Gross SpectraLite EyeCare Pro
Ever noticed how all these actors wax poetic about wrinkles giving faces “character,” but then proceed to undergo every conceivable treatment to avoid developing these very lines and wrinkles? Well, I won’t mince words: I know wrinkles are unavoidable but, if I can delay their arrival, I will most certainly do so! As I said during the segment, every wrinkle may tell a story, but I’m not prepared for my face to be weaving any tales!
So, with that said, meet my new bestie: the Dr. Dennis Gross SpectraLite EyeCare Pro ($159 at DrDennisGross.com). This hands-free and wearable device is the first FDA-cleared LED treatment device for the eye area. It features 72 LED lights that emit four wavelengths of red light that work synergistically to increase collagen production, thereby smoothing fine lines and wrinkles around the area (including crow’s feet and the “elevens” between brows), improving and evening out skin tone, and increasing overall skin density.
Each treatment takes only three minutes, so you can easily incorporate this gadget into your daily regimen. Also, you look like a cool superhero when you wear the mask, so that’s fun!
ReVive Light Therapy Lip Care
Sure, Kylie Jenner may have taken out her lip fillers, but that doesn’t mean the plump lip craze has become obsolete. These days, women enjoy the look of pillowy and pouty lips. And beyond pumping up the volume on those lips, we all want our pouts to look supple, rosy, and line-free. The ReVive Light Therapy Lip Care ($99 at ReviveLightTherapy.com) helps on all of these fronts. It’s the only LED device for the lip area on the market, and it helps to increase circulation; stimulate natural collagen and elastin; minimize the appearance of smile lines, vertical lines and lip creases; enhance your lip tone; and increase lip volume.
To use, you just bite down on the mouth tray (which is detachable so you can rinse after each use) and press the power button on the oblong-shaped device. Lights will immediately come on, signaling the start of your treatment. Within 3 minutes, your session will be complete and the device will automatically shut off.
There just aren’t enough kissy face emojis to convey my love for this pout perfector!
iRestore Hair Growth System
A lot of people think of hair loss as a male problem, but it really isn’t: according to the Academy of Dermatology, 40% of women have experienced visible hair loss by age 40. So, if you’re staring to see some bald patches, if you notice your hair is thinning or your strands are weaker and more brittle than they once were, you don’t have to suffer in silence or just resign yourself to wearing wigs. This is the iRestore Laser Hair Growth System ($695 at iRestoreLaser.com), and it’s an FDA-cleared and clinically-proven at-home solution to help tackle hereditary hair loss. This treatment is non-invasive and has no side effects, so it’s completely safe and painless.
The device, which looks like a helmet, uses medical-grade cold laser technology to improve scalp conditions, energizing hair follicles, so that dormant hair follicles begin producing hair again. It also relies on red light therapy to stimulate the growth of thicker and healthier hear.
Each treatment lasts 25 minutes, so you can simply place it above your head while reading a book, answering emails on your iPad, scrolling through your Instagram feed, or watching TV on the couch. If use it every other day, you’ll notice you’ll be shedding less and new hair will be growing in after just 3 months.
Side note: while the photo above shows light being emitted from the device, there are actually sensors within the helmet’s interior that ensure the device powers down when it’s removed from the head (a very smart safety feature!), so just know it won’t remain illuminated unless you’re wearing it!
BlendSmart 2 Rose Gold Starter Set
If you want your foundation to look airbrushed and flawless, you’ll love the BlendSmart 2 Rose Gold Starter Set ($69 at BlendSmart.com). This innovative foundation brush spins at 190 RPM so as to seamlessly blend your foundation — whether you’re using a cream, liquid, or powder formula.
The motorized handle is really lightweight, and it’s compatible with all of BlendSmart’s other brush heads so you can also use it with your powder, highlighter, or blush heads (all available at BlendSmart.com). Whether you’re a beginner who is largely intimidated by makeup or a savvy beauty lover, you’ll appreciate how this brush simplifies the makeup application process.
