MAC Casual Colour Collection — Easy As Sunday Morning

MAC Casual Colour Summer 2012 Collection

When temperatures rise past the ninety degree mark, even the most flamboyant makeup junkies feel compelled to cut back on the foundations, sculpting powders, and loose powers, not to mention the intricate eye looks involving layered, blended, and smoked out shadows. For some, these cosmetic cut-backs stem from fear of makeup meltdowns — after all, even the best makeup setting spray can’t battle sweltering heat and profuse sweating. For others, it’s a matter of heat-induced lethargy — see, when you take a refreshing shower only to feel sticky and sweaty a half hour later, it hardly makes you feel motivated to exert any additional energy. And, in the case of beach lovers, it’s hardly practical to pile on the cosmetics when you’re planning to lay on the sand and frolic in the ocean.

Taking all these factors into consideration, MAC Cosmetics released its Casual Colour Collection, a limited-edition collection meant to channel an easy, laid-back, effortless take on beauty. At the center of the collection are the Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colours ($20 at MACcosmetics.com), round pots filled with lightweight cream colors that glide right onto skin and which you can dab on your pout for a delicate, stain-like finish or blend onto cheeks for a hint of color and definition. None of the colors have too much shine, nor do they have any shimmer, which makes them look all the more natural when applied to the desired areas. For ideal results, I’d suggest using fingertips to apply these colors and pressing them onto lips or cheeks with a dabbing motion so that they practically “sink” into the skin.

The Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colours are available in the following eight hues:

  • Have A Lovely Day! — a nude hue with neutral undertones
  • Lazy Sunday — a sweet baby pink
  • Weekend Getaway — a mauve-ish rose
  • Relaxation — a warm, practically golden pink
  • Keep It Loose — a sunset peach
  • Keep It Casual — a light sangria red
  • Evening Stroll — a vivid, grape-y violet
  • Out For Fun — a coral shade with cool undertones

Below, you’ll find swatches of the Evening Stroll and Keep it Casual shades. I love how natural these look on lips, which I attribute to the gel-meets-cream consistency and the lack of pearl particles or artificial-looking shine. That being said, while the Casual Colours won’t dry out your lips, they also won’t moisturize them, so you will want to keep your favorite lip balm handy while wearing these. Other than that, if you like understated makeup looks, you’ll love to laid-back vibe of these multi-purpose cream color pots.
