Look Of The Day — The Groovy ’60s Revisited

Yesterday was an insanely busy day but, fortunately, the sun was beaming in New York City, so I took the opportunity to wear a bright shift dress in the hopes that my Field of Dreams-inspired, “if you build it, he will come” ethos and basically will springtime to stay for good this time around. I can’t say my feat was successful on the weather front since, today, it was again overcast and chilly, but at least I had the chance to splash some color into the world and feel the sunshine on my face for a day! In any case, I’ve had this Ali Ro Abstract-Print Jersey Dress ($145 at LastCall.com) hanging in my closet for several months, so I was excited to finally take it out for a whirl. The dress has a really psychedelic print with lush leaves and oversize tropical flowers in exciting shades of cyan blue, purple, red, white, black, mint green, seafoam green, lilac, and royal blue, and the silhouette just screams Swinging Sixties — from the flared three-quarter sleeves to the bateau neckline and the above-the-knee skirt length.

Since the dress has such a busy pattern, I decided to go easy on the accessories, opting for my ruched, knee-high, suede Kelsi Dagger Iona Boots ($220 at Amazon.com), which have a blue color that mirrors one of the shades in the Ali Ro dress, half of the Amrita Singh Madhuri Bangle Set ($100 at AmritaSingh.com) mixed with the House of Harlow 1960 Aztec Bangle in red ($80 at BoutiqueToYou.com), and I finished the look with a pair of teardrop-shaped Kendra Scott Wren Earrings ($70 at KendraScott.com) with a cobalt blue stone at its center.

And, to my delight, since I ended up going to a press event at the newly opened Mirror salon within the Carol’s Daughter boutique in the Harlem section of NYC, I was treated to an amazing scalp treatment during which the Carol’s Daughter Lisa’s Hair Elixir Fortifying Scalp Spray was gently massaged into my scalp and my mane was washed and conditioned with the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner. My hair was then blowdried and curled so as to give me soft, bombshell-worthy waves. The hairdo worked perfectly with my ’60s-inspired ensemble, so that I wound up feeling like I was rockin’ a playful go-go girl look, channeling heather Graham in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. So groovy, baby!
