Kiehl’s Cactus Flower & Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist — A Succulent Skincare Treat!
Yesterday, I spent the afternoon in the hot Texas sun as I watched monster trucks racing through a huge dirt field, leaping off of mounds, rolling over junk cars, turning sharp corners at high speeds, and giving the crowd plenty to cheer about. I was enjoying every second, but my skin was having a tougher time — which is why I reached for the Kiehl’s Cactus Flower & Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist ($27 for 2.5. fl. oz. at Kiehls.com) whenever I needed to cool down a bit or my face started feeling tight or dry.
Available in two sizes — a larger 4.2 fl. oz. bottle and the portable 2.5 fl.oz shown here — this new hydrating mist can even be worn over makeup, making it that much more of a beauty bag essential (especially if you live in a dry or hot climate). I’ve been using it throughout the summer, but it will also prove to be a lifesaver come winter — and, if you live in the Northeast and are already dreading snow-filled forecasts and subzero temperatures, this mist should be a source of comfort since it will revive winter-dull skin and provide some relief from those forceful and frigid gusts of winds that feel like slaps against the complexion.
The main ingredients in this lightweight mist is cactus flower — specifically, the blossoms that grow on the Opuntia Ficus-Indica, also known as the prickly pear plant, a type of cactus indigenous to Mexico that has been found to have exceptionally water-binding properties so that, when applied to skin, it helps to retain moisture. The plant is also rich in vitamins A, B, and C, which make it an anti-aging powerhouse. Tibetan ginseng extract, meanwhile, promotes cellular regeneration and stimulates collagen synthesis, helping to maintain skin’s elasticity and to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
Aside from these two botanical extracts, the mist contains geranium oil, which has natural astringent properties and as a result helps to contract facial muscles and thereby minimize the appearance of wrinkles; rosemary oil, which has natural antiseptic properties, thereby eliminating any bacteria and keeping skin clear and blemish-free, and which contains phytonutrients that protect skin cells from damage wrought by UV rays and free radicals; and lavender oil, a wonderful anti-inflammatory that is touted for its wound-healing properties and its ability to treat a variety of skin conditions ranging from insect bites to eczema and psoriasis.
When you spritz the Kiehl’s Cactus Flower Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist on your skin, you’ll instantly feel a cooling sensation, and your senses will be soothed by the prominent lavender aroma. Not only does it help parched skin get a dose of much-needed hydration, but the mist will help to alleviate any redness or puffiness. You might even notice an improvement in the overall texture of your skin since it helps to create a smoother surface area. When you apply it on top of your makeup, meanwhile, it will help to prevent foundation from looking cake-y or seeping into fine lines, giving it a bit of a refresh.
