I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll — What I Wore On Day 1 of New York Fashion Week SS15!

Yesterday marked the official start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week here in New York City, and those staging the various runway shows or reporting on them are pretty much on mayhem mode (myself included). Luckily for me, all of the shows I attended on the first day took place outside of the Lincoln Center vicinity, and the atmosphere was more friendly and low-key. In any case, before I start blogging about all the amazing clothes and the beauty looks created backstage, I wanted to share my own outfit for the day.

I wanted to create a rock ‘n’ roll vibe so, after choosing a clingy BCBGMAXAZRIA dress with a geometric pattern that incorporates turquoise, kelly green, black, and pale yellow shades, and which boasts ruching and a zipper accent along one side, I piled on some of my quirkiest and most daring accessories — among them the Baublebar Chainmaille Bib ($68 at Baublebar.com), a multi-layered bib necklace with thick silver-toned curb link chains of various widths staggered together then draped at the very bottom for a scalloped look. The necklace is beyond fly though I will forewarn you that it’s a heavy piece and your neck might start feeling the pain after a few hours! And since I’m definitely adventurous with my jewelry, I further accessorized with a pair of Joanna Laura Constantine crystal feather earrings (which I purchased at MyHabit.com about a year ago). The earrings drop down from the lobe so that they don’t follow the curve of the ear like many of the season’s ear cuffs, but I actually like that they’re drop earrings since it gives them a bit more movement. And, of course, that molded, headdress-like form, and the juxtaposition of clear rhinestones, small turquoise stones, and almond-shaped black crystals arranged in a fanned-out row, works to give the earrings a modern, rebellious edge while still touching upon a tribal motif.

As for the rest of my jewelry, I kept it relatively simple with a stack of Amrita Singh gunmetal-toned bangles with black crystal accents and a zig-zag ring from Nasty Gal.

To lengthen my silhouette and infuse a bit more color into the look, I chose a pair of sky-high Paper Fox heels, available at ShoeDazzle.com, in a green-and-black color combination. The shoes not only have a great color-blocked design but they also feature contrasting textures since the black straps are smooth and lustrous while the green sides have more of a pebbled look to them. My best friend’s response to my shoes: “You look tall — and that never happens!” He’s right though. After all, my brother didn’t nickname me Pitufa (which means “Smurfette” in Spanish) for nothing!

Since I tend to carry my whole life in my purse, I chose a white leather Romygold hobo bag with a knotted shoulder strap and metallic accents along the bottom edge. It ended up being a great choice since it was so hot and muggy outside that I had to carry an enormous bottle of water at all times!
