Hard Foiled — New touch in SOL Metallist Liquid Foil Lipstick Duo Gives Pouts A Gilded Luster
Could metallic lips overtake the matte mouth craze of the last few years? There were certainly plenty of gilded and glitter-bombed pouts on the Spring 2017 runways, and Instagram is brimming with photos of beauty lovers whose lips look as if they were coated with molten gold. If you want to experiment with the metallic lip look, the new touch in SOL Metallist Liquid Foil Lipstick Duo ($25 each at Sephora and Sephora.com) will make those dreams come true.
The Korean cosmetics company devised a dual-ended product that, when used together, helps to coat lips in long-lasting, high-voltage, pigment-saturated color with a glistening, foil-like finish and a touch of shimmer. First, using the sponge-tip applicator, you drench lips in the Metallic Liquid Lipstick, making sure to follow the contours of your mouth and to fill with precision. Next, you wait one minute until that liquid lipstick sets, and then you twist open the opposite end of the tube and, using the applicator on that end, you layer the Glittering Gloss atop the metallic color. The final result is beyond striking!
The touch in SOL Metallist Liquid Foil Lipstick Duo comes in seven shades: Lola, a bronzy gold; Penny, a brown rose; Maria, a pale brown; Zaza, a deep bronze; Jasmine, a maroon-ish red; Lucy, a dramatic magenta; and Sophie, a deep purple with fuchsia undertones. The liquid lipstick portion of each dual-ended product contains antioxidant-rich green tea, lubricating apricot kernel oil, and soothing and conditioning rose extract. The gloss portion, meanwhile, contains moisturizing and softening argan and avocado oils, inflammation-fighting anise extract, and soothing, vitamin E-packed sunflower seed oil.
I had the chance to road test two of the Metallist shades: Lola and Penny. Both are unlike any other lip colors I own, and they have an inherently edgy feel to them, but the application process involves minimal effort. In other words, it’s the perfect formula for a winning product!
Let’s take a look at some swatches!
LOLA
First, check out what the Lola Metallic Liquid Lipstick looks like before you apply the Glittering Gloss. As you can see, the color is a bronzy gold shade that might remind you of ancient Egypt, of Tutankhamun’s funerary mask or the north wall of his burial chamber.
Next, check out how the shade is transformed once you apply the Glittering Gloss atop it. Now, the shade is fully opaque, the coloring significantly more intense, and there’s more dimension thanks to the gold, red, and bronze shimmer in the gloss.
Here’s another look at the Lola shade once both the liquid lip color and the gloss are applied:
PENNY
Next, take a look at the Penny shade, which is a brown rose hue that’s romantic but also avant-garde. In the photo below, you can see what the shade looks like without the glittering gloss (at top) and how it’s transformed with a layer of gloss (at bottom).
Next, check out a few more pics of Penny in all her splendor. As you can see, the gloss really makes this shade come alive and gives it an almost cosmic appeal.
Last but not least, here are some pics of me wearing the Penny shade. I’m totally smitten with this color, so hopefully you will be too!
My thoughts on the touch in SOL Metallist Liquid Foil Lipstick Duo? Well, obviously I think it merits a gold star! I’m now aching to try the Jasmine, Zaza, and Lucy shades!
