Guerlain Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighter — Off You Glow!

This season, powder blushes, bronzers,  sculpting powders,  and illuminating beauty powders are taking a backseat, allowing their creamy counterparts to take the wheel and spearhead the mission of providing women with a natural-looking, Jennifer Lopez-esque glow that seems to radiate from within, luring onlookers as efficiently as fireflies do when they woo their insect mates by flaunting their bioluminescent lower abdomens. Aside from cream blushes and bronzers, then, we’re seeing an abundance of gel-like tints, serums, and liquid cheek colors with light-reflecting particles that minimize the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles, create the illusion of an even skin tone, and coat the skin with a dewy shimmer.

One of my current favorites is the  Guerlain Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighter ($41 at Sephora.com), new for Summer 2012, an ultra lightweight cheek tint saturated with mother of pearl particles that highlight any area on which the product is applied. Unlike other luminizers, which have an opal-like base or a deep bronze tint, the Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighters incorporate the pigmentation associated with blushes (the sultry pink and coral hues), while also saturating these with the glimmer necessary to achieve the desired glow.

Available in 02 Sunny Pink or 03 Spicy Coral, the Guerlain Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighter comes in a sleek tube with a small pump dispenser so that, when you squeeze down on the pump, a droplet of color will be deposited onto your palm. Because the product is so saturated with pigment, two to three drops should more than suffice to cover cheeks or sculpt the face by contouring the cheekbones. I even like applying the collar along my collarbones to add some definition when I’m wearing a strapless dress or low-cut top.

And, since these blushes have a water base, they seem to “sink” into the skin more efficiently, appearing more natural and effortless (and hence making you look that much younger).

After the jump, you’ll find swatches of the Sunny Pink shade of the Guerlain Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighter. It’s a summer beach bag must!

Below, you’ll find two photos that depict how the Guerlain Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighter in 02 Sunny Pink appears when smoothed onto skin. The color itself is a gorgeous coral pink, the type of shade you’d expect to see along the inside of a conch shell, and the fine clear and gold mother of pearl bits make the skin appear sun-smooched without looking glittery or disco-y.  Take a look!
