Galactic Ponytails At CZAR by Cesar Galindo Spring 2014
Mexican-American designer Cesar Galindo looked to the future when designing the Spring 2014 CZAR by Cesar Galindo collection, showcased in The Box at Lincoln Center on the afternoon of Monday, September 9th. Inspired by the idea of space travel, virtual reality, and the science fiction film canon he so treasures, Galindo created a futuristic collection with an abundance of silver (the signature color of robots, space ships, cyborgs and drones in movies and TV shoes ranging from The Day the Earth Stood Still to Metropolis, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Jetsons) and iridescent elements mixed with vibrant colors that added a techno feel to the flowing maxi dresses and layered looks.
In keeping with this galactic inspiration, O&M Creative Director Janelle Chaplin gave models low, sleek, futuristic ponytails with an extraterrestrial feel. To create the look, Chaplin started by applying a quarter-sized amount of the O&M Style Guru Styling Cream to damp tresses, working the cream from roots to ends. Next, she divided the hair into two sections, parting the hair horizontally along the center of the head, above the ears. Using a flat brush, Chaplin pulled the bottom section into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, securing it with a cable tie. Turning her attention to the top section of the hair, she parted the area down the middle, creating two separate sections. Next she twisted each section inwards to create a bit of height at the crown. After working these sections into the ponytail, she then secured them with a cable tie. Next, she flat ironed the hair within the ponytail to make it ultra sleek and applied the O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum all along the head to keep strands smooth and boost shine.
The crowning touch — literally— was a row of clear rectangular rhinestones running from the hairline to the end of the ponytail, thereby creating a Tron-worthy effect. The look is cyborg chic at its best!
