Eugenia Kim Unveils Pre-Fall Collection of Felt and Woven Hats

As you start preparing for the summer-to-fall transition, complete your style arsenal with some dapper fedoras, bucket hats, cloches, and berets from the fabulous Eugenia Kim. The beloved hat designer just unveiled her Pre-Fall 2012 collection, which includes an assortment of styles in some of the most popular colors of the coming autumn season: hunter green, mustard yellow, taupe, brick red, olive green, chocolate brown, and heather gray.

Since I’m loving the rich hunter green shades popping up for fall, I have a soft spot for the Eugenia Kim Toby 1 ($240 at EugeniaKim.com), pictured at top. Made of rich suede, the structured bucket hat features a short, down-turned, shade-offering brim with rows of tonal stitching running around the brim’s circumference, while the base of the crown is adorned with a slim strap featuring a golden metal buckle at the side.

The Eugenia Kim Carly 2 ($305 at EugeniaKim.com), shown second from top, focuses on one of the warmer shades of the season: an almost golden marigold yellow reminiscent of turning leaves. In addition to its striking color, this velour topper makes a statement via a large brim, which instantly conjures up a Bohemian attitude, and the tonal feather wrapped around the base of the rounded crown, which amplifies the piece’s free-spirited flavor.

For a safari-influenced look, try the Eugenia Kim Dree 2 ($285 at EugeniaKim.com), pictured third from top, an olive velour felt piece with a camel leather belt accent. Unlike other military-inspired shades of olive, which feature cooler grayish undertones and register as a bit more severe and drab, this shade radiates warmth thanks to its golden camel tones. There’s a slight Indiana Jones vibe to this piece, but it’s a playful, modernized interpretation of that classic adventurer’s hat, with the “X” shape created by the tucked-in end of the belt strap and the brassy D-ring buckle infusing the piece with a contemporary attitude.

Those who prefer daintier toppers, meanwhile, will appreciate the  Eugenia Kim Mishka 2 ($135 at EugeniaKim.com), an expertly tailored beret in a charcoal silk boucle material.  Whereas some berets droop and flop, deflating like lackluster soufflés, the Mishka’s construction ensures that it maintains its asymmetrical form.
