eos Lip Balm Smooth Sphere Summer 2011 Pack — A Smooth Move
My love affair with eos Lip Balm Smooth Spheres can be traced back to July 2009, when I first held one of these egg-shaped lip balm containers in my cupped hands and, locating an indentation along the equator-like center of the domed case, pressed one thumb against the top half and one thumb against the bottom half, moving my digits in opposite directions so as to twist off the case’s top cap. Once the lid was removed, my eyes fell upon the solid lip balm inside the cocoon-like gizmo, which looked as if it had been molded and sculpted into a perfect semi-circle shape. The wonders of the packaging’s modern design became immediately apparent: I realized that I could clutch the bottom half of the sphere (which, coincidentally, features a flat bottom so that you can rest it atop a table or desk without it rolling over) and glide the balm across my lips, making for a much more hygienic application process, one that wouldn’t involve dipping potentially dirty, bacteria-ridden fingers into hollow jars and tins filled with petroleum jelly-like lip conditioners.
In addition to the practical and sleek packaging, I was smitten with the performance of the lip balm. Though I was skeptical about how soft it would feel against lips, I was surprised at how the gentle, emollient, 100% natural formula practically melted onto my pout upon contact, how it soothed and conditioned lips instantly while also keeping my pout hydrated for extended periods of time. By December 2009, the eos Smooth Spheres had made it into my Lip Balm Hall of Fame.
Since then, eos has continued expanding its array of Smooth Sphere options, adding such favorites as Lemon Drop and Tangerine to its original line-up of Sweet Mint, Honeysuckle Honeydew, and Summer Fruit flavors. No flavors to date, however, have been quite as craving-worthy as the two new limited-edition options in the Summer 2011 eos Smooth Sphere Twin Pack ($5.99 at Walmart, Walgreens and Target.com): Strawberry Sorbet and Passion Fruit.
Like their predecessors, these all-natural, gluten-free lip balms are formulated with 95% organic ingredients and feature skin-loving botanical extracts and vitamins like moisturizing jojoba oil, softening shea butter, and antioxidant-rich vitamin E (which protects lips from free radical damage). The Strawberry Sorbet Smooth Sphere, packaged in a My Little Pony-worthy, powder pink case, smells like gummy strawberry candy (think of a pack of Welch’s Fruit Snacks in Strawberry) and tastes almost as delicious as these juicy treats. The Passion Fruit Smooth Sphere, meanwhile, comes in a pale lavender sphere and smells like a grape lollipop. The flavor actually reminds me of children’s Dimetapp (which, oddly enough, I loved as a child since it tasted like liquid candy). I’d describe it as more of a sweet grape scent than a passion fruit one but, technicalities aside, it’s as delicious as a grape popsicle on a steaming summer day. Still, if I had to pick just one favorite, I’d say the Strawberry Sorbet flavor currently tops my list of yummiest Smooth Sphere options to date.
Since these flavors are only available for a limited time, I’m considering clearing out the shelves of Target.com’s warehouse like a time-conscious contestant on “Supermarket Sweeps” — only so that I won’t have to do without these tasty treats come winter.
At $5.99 per two-pack, the eos Smooth Sphere Summer Pack is an affordable (and delicious) way to keep your lips looking smooth, supple, and juicy all season long.
