Empire of the Sunnies — The QUAY x Kylie Sunglass Collection Has Arrived!

Even if you roll your eyes whenever you spot the names “Kardashian” or “Jenner” in newspapers, magazines, and blogs, there is no denying that the First Family of Reality Television is still setting countless beauty and fashion trends — from waist trainers and corset belts to pastel hair, plump pouts, ripped-to-shreds jeans, and sheer, lingerie-inspired bodysuits. While Kim Kardashian’s star continues to shine bright, her younger sisters have been steadily growing their fan bases and becoming more influential in their own right — particularly Kylie, who has emerged as a beauty icon, launching her own hair extension line, Kylie Hair Couture, and constantly churning out new lip kits via her Kylie Cosmetics line that sell out within days (if not hours!). Thanks to her businesses, her mobile app, and her lucrative endorsement deals with SinfulColors, PacSun, Puma, and Topshop, Kylie raked in an estimated $18 million in 2016. Hate it or love it, the masses are paying attention to what Kylie is doing and wearing — and emulating it. And, since Kylie rocks shades pretty much every time she’s out in the California sun, it only made sense that a sunglasses brand would approach her about a collaboration. Enter Quay Australia and the #QuayXKylie collection, which includes four limited-edition styles that exude an effortlessly cool vibe — and retail for less than $100!

Check out the four styles in the QuayXKylie collection below!

QUAYXKYLIE ICONIC AVIATOR SUNGLASSES

By far my favorite style in the collection, the QuayXKylie Iconic shades ($75 at QuayAustralia.com and UrbanOutfitters.com) take the classic aviator style and update it by super-sizing the frames, adding a mesh accent at the bridge (which feels right on brand for Kylie Jenner given her love of sheer bodysuits!), and giving the lenses a fun reflective finish. The shades are available in black with silver-toned lenses, white with silver-toned lenses, and gold with purple-tinged pink lenses.

QUAYXKYLIE HIDDEN HILLS SUNGLASSES

The most audacious style in the collection, the QuayxKylie Hidden Hills sunglasses ($75 at QuayAustralia.com and UrbanOutfitters.com) are a funky shield silhouette that nods to the Chanel sunnies she donned at Coachella in 2016 or, for that matter, the oversize, ’80s-inspired Porsche Design shades Kylie rocked in a May photo posted on her Instagram feed. Aside from the Iconic aviator frames, this is the other standout style in the QuayxKylie collection. Available in translucent pink with reflective mirrored lenses and in black with non-reflective black lenses, these shades make you feel like you’re going incognito — and make everyone else want to find out who you are (after all, you must be a #boss with shades like these!). The plastic arms give the style a casual feel while the contrasting metal studs and the perfectly straight brow bar add a tough industrial edge.

QUAYXKYLIE PURPLE HONEY SUNGLASSES

Admittedly, I’d never wear these shades since my face is just two round to ever make them work, but there’s no denying their coolness. The QuayXKylie Purple Honey sunglasses (at QuayAustralia.com and UrbanOutfitters.com) remind me of the small round sunglasses John Lennon made famous (a style that was later adopted by such rockers as Ozzy Osborne). But, unlike Lennon’s signature shades, these don’t have round frames but, rather, they feature a funky geometric shape that feels modern and fun. You can choose between gold frames with dark green lenses or gold frames with Janis Joplin-worthy mirrored yellow lenses.

QUAYXKYLIE STAR STRUCK SUNGLASSES

The QuayxKylie Star Struck sunglasses ($80 at QuayAustralia.com and UrbanOutfitters.com) nod to the cat-eye style favored by such old Hollywood stars as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Bette Davis. But, unlike the cat-eye sunglasses of yore, these feature transparent matte frames and non-reflective lenses — another nod to Kylie’s obsession with matte finishes (just think of her love of matte lipsticks). The matte-itude of the Star Struck shades is precisely what gives them a whimsical and flirty feel. Just try wearing the red ones and not feeling like a hot tamale!
