Embrace the Light with the Becca Cosmetics’ Luminous Blush Range

Want to snap your fingers and have luminous-looking skin? Well, so does Becca Cosmetics, which is why the brand has mastered the art of formulating makeup products that give your face a youthful, glow-y, lit-from-within effect.  Their Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Creme is one of the most amazing highlighters I’ve tried thus far (and this coming from someone who has spent a decade obsessed with replicating Jennifer Lopez’s trademark glow), as is the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed. So, when I heard Becca had developed a line of blushes inspired by its über popular Skin Perfector, I was all in. Why? Because these blushes were formulated so as to have the right balance between color pay-off and radiance-boosting prowess.

The Becca Luminous Blush range, then, consists of six lustrous shades— Snapdragon, Tigerlily, Camellia, Dahlia, Blushed Copper, and Foxglove — each retailing for $34 at BeccaCosmetics.com and Sephora.com. You can wear these alone or layer them atop a matte blush in order to give it a radiance boost.

Now, I tried two blush shades within the collection: Snapdragon and Tigerlily. Below, you’ll find swatches of these two shades:

As you can see, Snapdragon is a warm coral pink hue with very demure golden shimmer. I love the shade because you can build up its intensity  or soften it as desired and, once blended, the color looks incredibly natural. Most importantly, Becca gets the luminosity component just right. Matte blushes can sometimes look very flat and one-dimensional, while shimmer blushes tend to incorporate entirely too much chunky glitter . In contrast, the Becca Luminous Blush strikes a nice balance between that pigment pay-off you covet from a matte blush and that luster you seek from a shimmer blush. Because the light-reflecting particles are so fine, each blush makes your cheeks look like they’re being kissed by the sun. It’s the type of makeup that you wear rather than it wearing you.

As for the Tigerlily shade, it’s a really fun tangerine color. When you look at the swatch, you might find the color intimidating, but it actually looks great on the skin — I probably use it just as much as the Snapdragon shade! It gives cheeks a warmth that’s perfect for sunny days, and yet it doesn’t make you look like an Oompa Loompa (which, let’s face it, can happen with orange-y blush shades!).

Here are some photos in which I’m wearing the Tigerlily shade:

Normally, I’d soften the color a bit more, blend it in just a tad more, but I wanted to give you an idea of the level of intensity you can achieve with the blush. Also, as you can see, once you diffuse the color, it doesn’t look quite as orange. Instead, it’s got more of a vermilion vibe. If you look at the photos, you’ll notice that, even when I packed a lot of color in, there’s still not a lot of sparkle — which I personally appreciate. The shimmer effect is demure, not rave city material!

Now, check out a couple of picks in which I’m wearing the Snapdragon hue:

See how it gives the complexion a nice glow that’s still incredibly believable? It’s amazing!

You can even wear it on bare skin when you just want a hint of color on your cheeks, but you don’t want to go through the trouble of applying foundation.  It just makes your skin look healthy and alive!
