There’s no stopping designer Rachel Roy, whose aesthetic is informed by her upbringing in laid-back California (which translates into pieces with a seemingly effortless sense of chicness), her mother’s Indian roots (hence the abundance of draped pieces, jaipur and ikat prints, harem pants, sari-like cuts, and Bollywood-worthy colors), and her lifestyle in New York City (which explains the bold, sharp, decidedly urban attitude of so many of her designs). In addition to her ongoing relationship with Macy’s, which carries her RACHEL Rachel Roy line, the prolific designer has joined forces with HSN to create a capsule collection incorporating apparel, jewelry,handbags, and shoes. The label RACHEL ROY collection will make its official TV debut on Saturday, July 7th (pieces are currently available online at HSN.com).
Given that HSN has transformed its image in recent years, appealing to a broader demographic that includes younger, more style-savvy women thanks to collaborations with the likes of Carlos Falchi, Ranjana Khan, Badgley Mischka, Loree Rodkin, and Stefani Greenfield, the addition of Rachel Roy to HSN’s design family crystallizes the shopping network’s desire to further modernize its image, offering consumers access to affordable pieces by renowned and in-demand contemporary fashion designers.
All of the label RACHEL ROY pieces are a true reflection of Roy’s distinctive style: from the Miranda dress (shown second from top), a jersey frock with a draped V-shaped bodice, a cinched waistline, and functional pockets; to the Asymmetric Print Oversize Top (pictured last above), a breezy, scarf-like top with ample sleeve holes and a slanted hemline; and the Enamel & Crystal Necklace (shown above at top), a statement necklace featuring a chunky, rose gold-colored chain and an Egyptian-flavored drop pendant with teardrop-shaped, round, and elliptical crystals and enamel details in black, neon pink, and a chartreuse shade.
Other highlights include the Stripe Frame Clutch (pictured third from top), a patent leather, envelope-shaped piece with horizontal stitching to resemble stripes and a metal frame rim with a top clasp; the Kaylee Pumps (shown below), platform heels with a round toe and a bold heel featuring tonal stud-like details for a contrast in texture.
As you can tell from the photos, the pieces in the collection channel the push-and-pull between strength and vulnerability, traditionalism and modernism, masculinity and femininity, beachy ease and urban immediacy, daintiness and bravado that make Roy’s work so exciting. The color palette, meanwhile, incorporates bright, effervescent shades like lemon yellow, honeysuckle pink, and coral orange, alongside more basic hues like violet-tinged indigo, military-worthy avocado green, and timeless black. Prints, meanwhile, include watercolor-worthy florals, leopard motifs, ikat prints, and jaipur designs.
Prices range from $36 to $148, making this collection even more affordable than the RACHEL Rachel Roy line (my go-to source for sexy but versatile dresses and funky costume jewelry).
