Coral Red Lips And Relaxed Waves Complement Taylor Schilling’s Modern Bohemian Look At The 2015 Emmys
Though Taylor Schilling didn’t quite make our best-dressed list for the 2015 Emmys — something about the fit of her Stella McCartney gown seemed slightly askew, as if perhaps the waistline was too high on the tall actress’s frame — the sunflower yellow hue she chose added excitement to a pretty dull red carpet event. It also had the effect of making Schilling appear radiant and bubbly, as if she were channeling ’90s-era Drew Barrymore. The sunny quality of her gown aside, much of this effect can be attributed to the beauty look created by makeup artist Hung Vanngo and hair stylist Harry Josh. Inspired by the free-spirited vibe of her gown, Schilling’s beauty A-team worked to create a modern Bohemian look that would feel relaxed but elegant.
To create the beauty look, Hung Vanngo started by focusing on Schilling’s complexion, treating her skin to the Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask so as to hydrate and gently exfoliate her skin. After cleansing her skin and removing all traces of the clay mask, Vanngo reached for the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, massaging it onto the star’s face and neck to infuse it with moisture. To give her eyes a brightening boost, particularly the area under the eyes, Vanngo used the Charlotte Tilbury Mini Miracle Eye Wand.
Once the skin was prepped, Vanngo began the makeup application, starting with a sheer layer of the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow, which he applied all over the face — save for the T-zone, which tends to get shiny in a not-so-alluring way! — so as to give Schilling’s complexion a lit-from-within effect and diffuse any fine lines thanks to the product’s light-scattering technology. Next, for coverage, he used the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Youth-Boosting Perfect Skin Foundation in Shade 3 and the Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher in Shade 2 under the eyes areas, around the nose and to cover a few minor imperfections.
To give her complexion a healthy flush, Vanngo relied on the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop Blush in Sex on Fire. He then emphasized her bone structure through some subtle contouring, applying the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow with a large brush around her jawline and the ridges of her forehead, then brushing the Charlotte Tilbury X Norman Parkinson Dreamy Glow Highlighter on top of the cheekbones, along the ridge of the nose and on the forehead so as to emphasize these areas. The final step was applying the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in Shade 2 to Schilling’s T-zone, so as to keep the area matte without making it appear flat.
The eye look was earthy and minimalist, so Vanngo started by filling in Schilling’s brows with the Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift in Brooke S. He then used the CK One Color 100 Neutrals Redefined Powder Eyeshadow Palette on eyelids, starting with the “Honest” shade for the upper and lower lids and following with the “Impulsive” shadow along the crease. Using an eyeliner brush, Vanngo drew a soft line along the upper lashes using the “Heartless” shade, making the line as thin and imperceptible as possible. To complete the nude smoky eye, he brushed on two coats of CK One Color Volume Mascara in Extreme Black onto her upper lashes and one coat onto the lower lashes.
The lip look, of course, was the statement-making component of the makeup look. Vanngo started by prepping lips with the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Magic, then lined Schilling’s pout with the Lip Cheat Pencil in Kiss ‘N’ Tell. Last, he applied the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in 1975 Red, a coral red hue with a demure matte finish.
John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh, meanwhile, styled Taylor’s long bob, giving it a voluminous pyramid shape but pairing it with loose and carefree waves.
To create the ‘do, Josh started by applying the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Volume Building Mousse to towel-dried hair. Next, he loosely blow dried sections of Schilling’s hair using a round brush. Once her hair was dry, he used the Harry Josh Pro Tools 2-in-1 Ceramic Marcel Curling Iron to create the waves, wrapping the hair around the barrel in the same direction each time so as to yield a consistent look. Once the curls were set, he gave the look hold and a dose of shine with the John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Day Hold Hairspray.
