Cool and Icy Shades Abound in Lauren B. Beauty’s Latest Nail Lacquer Collection
In late August, Lauren B. Beauty introduced eight new shades that would join her carefully edited range of elegant, vegan-friendly, fast-drying, 5-free nail lacquers. All the colors were inspired by a range of sites in her beloved Los Angeles — from a sunset viewed at the Griffith Park observatory to the color of a charming gate inside a Hancock Park garden. Because the collection wasn’t inspired by one overarching theme, it deviates significantly from many of the traditional fall and winter nail polish ranges, which typically incorporate chocolate-y browns, warm ochres and auburns, velvety reds, and New Year’s Ever-ready metallics. The latest Lauren B. range, then, refreshingly bucks convention, offering colors that can be worn during any season. Interestingly enough, however, three of the shades within the collection unintentionally exude a frosty, wintry magic: Santa Monica Shutters, a creamy white with a pearly gleam; Hancock Park, a deep purple iris purple with a creamy finish; and Sliver Lake Speakeasy, a silvery gray sky blue with a hefty dose of demure silver shimmer. These three nail lacquer colors, each available for $18 at LaurenBBeauty.com, will make you feel a bit like Frozen‘s Anna, looking at a fresh mantle of snow through her bedroom window and, her eyes wide with excitement, asking, “Do you want to build a snowman?”

SILVER LAKE SPEAKEASY
If this color reminds you of Elsa’s sparkly dress in Frozen, it’s because there’s a fantastical component to the hue, an illusory appeal that’s both intriguing and regal. The metallic shade somehow feels like it celebrates the beauty of the winter season: iced-over lakes, slivers of sky in between a forest’s snow-covered trees, distant snow-capped mountains in the tundra. At the same time, the nail lacquer doesn’t feel anchored to the winter season, perhaps because its sheen and silver base conveys a glamour reminiscent of the Jazz Era, of the Roaring ’20s.
From certain angles, the nail polish appears to be a hauntingly beautiful, silvery gray shade with just a touch of arctic blue, while from other angles, the blue appears more prominent. But whatever the viewpoint, the nail lacquer’s sheen bestows upon it a Gastbian opulence. Check out the photos below:
SANTA MONICA SHUTTERS
A creamy white shade is par for the course when it comes to winter nail polish collections, but the Lauren B. Santa Monica Shutters nail lacquer was, peculiarly enough, inspired not by snowy expanses but by the white wooden balconies, window frames, and porches within Santa Monica’s charming Shutters On The Beach hotel. Perhaps because of this inspiration, the color isn’t saturated with holographic sequins, tinsel-like glitter, and chunky sparkle. Instead, the creamy, milky white color incorporates just a hint of translucent shimmer. This touch of microglitter is just enough to give the pearlescent white polish a fresh snowfall effect.
Here’s what two coats of the polish look like:
HANCOCK PARK
Want to add a hint of color to your winter look without veering into perky oranges and honeysuckle pinks that herald the coming of spring? Then consider the Lauren B. Beauty Hancock Park nail lacquer, a creamy and fully opaque purple hue with blue undertones reminiscent of iris blossoms. The color was, in fact, inspired by the purple flowers, among them salvia, spotted in the perfectly manicured lawns and expansive gardens of the posh mansions in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park neighborhood.

Perfect for the winter season but equally exciting for spring, these shades should help you attain a chic and polished manicure.
