Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms — Eight More Shades To Love

Clinique Chubby Stick Spring 2012

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm SS12

Eight might have been enough for Dick Van Patten, but when it comes to Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms, eight is never enough — which is why, this season, Clinique literally doubled its Chubby Stick offerings to include a full 16 shades of the best-selling, moisturizing lip crayons.

Each of the Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms ($16 at Clinique.com) is formulated with shea butter, mango seed butter, and jojoba seed oil to soften, hydrate, and condition the pout while also protecting the tender skin on the lips from free radicals and triggering cellular regeneration and collagen and elastin synthesis at a deeper level, ensuring that this skin remains youthful and smooth. Best of all, they deposit a semi-sheer layer of color that bightens up the face while appearing natural and effortless.

Building on the success of its initia eight shades — most of which were basic nude and brown hues, with the occasional red or pink color — Clinique has introduced an additional eight colors. This time around, the color offerings are more adventurous, with bold oranges, dazzling hot pinks, and deep plums incorporated to reflect the current makeup climate, which emphasizes a bright lip.

The eight new shades introduced were: Two Ton Tomato, which resembles a spoonful of cream of tomato soup; Pudgy Peony, a hot pink shade worthy of a Nicki Minaj wig; Curvy Candy, a medium guava pink; Heaping Hazelnut, a toasty light brown with golden undertones; Bountiful Blush, a richer russet brown; Mighty Mimosa, a warm pink reminiscent of grapefruit juice; Voluptuous Violet, a slightly moody, grayish eggplant-meets-plum shade; and Oversized Orange, a sunny hue that might remind you of the skin of sun-ripened citrus fruits.

As always, the new Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Balms come in a thick crayon-like form, with a broad pointy tip that allows you to essentially “scribble” the desired color onto lips. A metal cap at the base can be twisted to expose more balm or to retract the color back into the barrel.

Before going online or visiting a Clinique counter and buying some Chubby Sticks based on the outer color of their barrels, do know that the packaging can be a bit deceiving — in fact, the names of lip balms more accurately describe their pigmentation than the tubes in which they’re contained.

To help you out even further in finding a delicious shade with a glaze-like finish, I’ve incorporated swatches of the eight new shades. Here goes!

Here’s a closer look at Heaping Hazelnut, Mighty Mimosa, Oversize Orange, Pudgy Peony, and Two Ton Tomato. As you might imagine, Pudgy Peony and Two Ton Tomato have been a summertime staple in my makeup bag since they give you a bright, succulent lip in a matter of seconds.

Next, you’ll find swatches of Voluptuous Violet, Curvy Candy, and Bountiful Blush (along with Heaping Hazelnut and Mighty Mimosa once again). The Bountiful Blush color looks beautiful against sun-kissed or bronzed skin, as does the Curvy Candy, while the Voluptuous Violet should transition nicely from summer to fall.

Any favorites? Which shade is making your mouth water?
