Charlize Theron Debuts her Pixie Cut, Styled by Enzo Angileri, at the 2013 Oscars
On the eve of the 85th Academy Awards, Twitter was ablaze with talk of two things: Anne Hathaway’s, uhm, Pointer Sisters (one user even created the account @HathawayNipple while another coined the hashtag #LesNipperables) and Charlize Theron‘s pixie cut. While Theron is hardly the first celebrity to chop off her long mane as of late (Miley Cyrus, Anne Hathaway, and Emma Watson are among those who’ve recently decided to opt for cropped ‘dos), she definitely did not ignite any of the debate that surrounded the dramatic hairstyling changes of the aforementioned actresses. The response to the typically controversial cut was overwhelmingly positive, with red carpet viewers gushing about how modern the look was and how it really brought Theron’s gorgeous features into focus. In other words, it takes a face like that of a golden goddess to pull off such a short hairstyle and Charlize Theron fits the bill like no other.
Apparently, Theron’s decision to chop her golden mane was dictated by a role she took on for which she actually had to shave off her hair. Three months later, her hair has grown just enough to truly be shaped into a pixie style as opposed to the G.I. Jane-ish look she referenced when asked about her bold hair transformation.
For the Oscars, celebrity hair stylist Enzo Angileri decided to shape Theron’s short locks so as to create a sophisticated but slightly tousled and androgynous look that would contrast the sleek lines and sculptural quality of the Oscar winner’s white Dior Couture gown.
To create the look, Angileri started by washing and conditioning Theron’s hair, then applying the Wella Professionals Natural Volume Styling Mousse to damp hair, then proceeding to blow-dry it with a diffuser. Next, he raked the hair down with a brush following the natural part (in Charlize’s case, it was parted along the left-hand side of the head) and leaving a bit of volume at top of the head for a bit of a lived-in quality. Using the Wella Professionals Shape Shift Molding Gum, Angileri then sculpted the hair along the top of the head to give it a bit of a spiky texture while giving the front of the hair a bit of a backwards wave. He finished the look by misting Theron’s hair with the luminosity-boosting Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray.
What did you think of Charlize’s hair? Would you dare to rock a pixie cut?
