Reading (and Primping) Are Fundamental — Check out the “Look of Love” By Lipstick Queen Lipstick Library Vol 2
Time to hit the books, beauty lovers!
Time to hit the books, beauty lovers!
Last fall, when makeup brand bareMinerals released its first collection of pressed eyeshadow duos and quads, I was floored by the intensity of the colors in the range and their lustrous finishes, which were consistent with the high quality established by their loose pigment predecessors, but I was particularly relieved to find these stunning eye shadows in a pressed form that proved both portable and mess-free (as most of us know, the “buff, tap, and swirl” technique wasn’t exactly conducive to cleanly vanity tables or bathroom counters).
I debated whether or not to watch the Academy Awards this year since, for the most part, I wasn’t enthused about the majority of the films released in 2012 (with Argo and Zero Dark Thirty being the two notable exceptions).
Though I was a bit perplexed by the strapless coral Miu Miu dress Kerry Washington wore to the 2013 Oscars (can’t say I loathed it, but I definitely didn’t think it was up to par with her typical red carpet fare, which is usually spot-on), I did think her minimalist beauty look was simply superb.
On the eve of the 85th Academy Awards, Twitter was ablaze with talk of two things: Anne Hathaway’s, uhm, Pointer Sisters (one user even created the account @HathawayNipple while another coined the hashtag #LesNipperables) and Charlize Theron’s pixie cut.
I’m not always the timeliest of people — for instance, I just mailed my father his Christmas present last week, which speaks to the ludicrous “island style” time table by which we operate in my family (side note: he’s been known to send birthday presents a month after the date has elapsed, so one could argue that I got it from him!).
After wowing legions of women with its Naked eyeshadow palettes, which forced naysayers to rethink their misconceptions regarding neutral eye shadows being boring or ordinary, trendsetting makeup brand Urban Decay has ventured to do the same with cheek colors, expanding its Naked line to include a versatile palette for the complexion. The Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette ($30 atSephora.com and UrbanDecay.com) features a blush shade, silky bronzer, and shimmering highlighter in one sleek compact.
If you’ve ever read novels set in ancient times and shrouded in mysticism — among them Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s 100 Years of Solitude — you’ve likely wondered about the dreamers whose life’s work was devoted to finding such treasures as the elixir of life and who strove to transform common metals like lead into gold, not simply to revel in the riches that the latter feat would accomplish but to achieve a spiritual transformation as a result of this metal transmutation process.
The proverbial curtain officially came down on New York Fashion Week on Thursday, February 14th, a fitting day given that we were kissing the festivities goodbye.
Happy Valentine’s Day, dolls!
