In the good old days when musicians released their compositions on vinyl, cassette, or CD, on some tangible medium you could hold in your hands and admire, great care was placed on creating cover art that would be as iconic and memorable as the songs on the albums themselves.
Whereas most hair care brands have undergone major transformations, tweaking their formulas to make them more eco-friendly and less reliant on harsh chemicals that can prove abrasive to strands and toxic for the environment, being green is part of Pureology’s DNA, insisting on natural ingredients, biodegradable and recyclable packaging, and sustainable practices from its very inception.
It’s only been three years since Ouidad landed in Sephora stores across the nation, but the woman behind the soon-to-be-ubiquitous line was far from a newcomer to the beauty industry — in fact, before her eponymous line’s Sephora launch, she’d spent 25 years tending to curly-haired gals like herself (in 1984, she opened the country’s first salon catering to curly hair).
If, like me, you approach changing your hair color with the same cavalier attitude typically reserved for scooping up under-$10 accessories, then you know that the consequences of your rash action can range from riotously satisfying (turns out you’re a fierce redhead!) to glaringly glib (that blue black dye transformed you into a veritable Addams Family member).
As a beauty writer, I’m constantly discussing how environmental factors — ranging from pollution to UV rays — can accelerate the skin aging process, but did you know that hair, too, can be adversely affected by these aggressors?

For years, I had a handful of glossing and smoothing creams that received top shelf treatment: the Fekkai Smooth Hair Hydrating Hair Cream, the Arrojo Frizz Control, and the Oscar Blandi Seta Silk Polishing Cream.I first discovered the Oscar Blandi Seta Polishing Cream around 2006, on a humid day when my curly hair was acting particularly cantankerous, with frizzy strands springing up and ruining the low ponytail I had tried so arduously to make appear sleek and refined.
If you’ve been following all the recent hair care product releases and discerning any corresponding trends, then you’ve probably noticed two main themes: straightening and damage-reversing.
The countdown to 2012 has officially begun and, unlike all the doomsday prophets and fatalistic ramblers who predict the world coming to an abrupt end (and not in the beautiful manner Lars Von Trier imagined for his film Melancholia), I believe the new year will unfold much like any other year: with the promise of new and exciting horizons, with the possibility for enlightenment and personal growth, with the dream of soul-stirring connections, and the reality that disappointments and hindrances will surface alongside triumphs and successes.
