Yesterday was an insanely busy day but, fortunately, the sun was beaming in New York City, so I took the opportunity to wear a bright shift dress in the hopes that my Field of Dreams-inspired, “if you build it, he will come” ethos and basically will springtime to stay for good this time around.
My dad always said a nice pat on the back is sometimes necessary — after all, if you don’t root for yourself, how can you expect others to do so?
I debated whether or not to watch the Academy Awards this year since, for the most part, I wasn’t enthused about the majority of the films released in 2012 (with Argo and Zero Dark Thirty being the two notable exceptions).
On the eve of the 85th Academy Awards, Twitter was ablaze with talk of two things: Anne Hathaway’s, uhm, Pointer Sisters (one user even created the account @HathawayNipple while another coined the hashtag #LesNipperables) and Charlize Theron’s pixie cut.
I’m not always the timeliest of people — for instance, I just mailed my father his Christmas present last week, which speaks to the ludicrous “island style” time table by which we operate in my family (side note: he’s been known to send birthday presents a month after the date has elapsed, so one could argue that I got it from him!).

One of the most pervasive beauty trends identified during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2013 has been the abundance of bold, smoky, somewhat cat-shaped eyes in deep shades of indigo blue, cobalt, and violet.
In previous years, fashion designer Jen Kao has opted for rather minimalist makeup looks when showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week but, for Fall 2013, she told MAC Cosmetics’ key makeup artist Yadim that she wanted to go a different route and showcase a stronger, more commanding look.
The makeup, hair, and nail looks created for the Creatures of the Wind Fall 2013 show, which took place earlier today at Eyebeam Studios in New York City, touched upon the many concepts that informed the collection – from the references to the bold colors and dynamic street art that typified 1980s youth culture to the Pop Art-influenced, kitschy, and colorful furniture pieces designed by Italian design and architecture group Memphis Group.
