Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Collection — A Beauty Flight To The Southwest

Southwestern motifs aren’t just trending on the style front — thanks to Bobbi Brown, makeup is also referencing the colors associated with this picturesque region, releasing collections that combine subtle, sandy neutrals and golden coral, peach, and pink hues; shimmering shades of rose, copper, and bronze; and delicious pops of turquoise. The Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight collection , released for Fall 2012, incorporates sun-drenched nudes, sunset-worthy shades of peach and pink, and oasis-like blues for a cool contrast to the warmer, more demure hues.

The collection’s focal point is the Bobbi Brown Desert Twilight Eye Palette ($60 at BobbiBrownCosmetics.com), an eight-shade eye shadow kit that features understated shades of cream, cocoa powder, fawn, deep muddy brown, mauve-tinged pink, copper, shimmering rose, and fairy dust-worthy twinkling pink. All the shades are very subtle and light (save for Chocolate Mauve, a richly pigmented brown with a dusty, near-matte finish and just a sprinkle of lavender-tinged pink glitter), and there’s enough of a combination of matte, satin, and sparkle eye shadows to create a multi-dimensional look. That being said, this isn’t necessarily the palette you’ll reach for when you want to create a striking, attention-grabbing, dramatic look since it doesn’t include any really rich and sumptuous colors, nor does it stray from the neutral shade family, but it does constitute an interesting and original take on a nude palette.

Like the eye shadows in the palette, the collection includes six new lipgloss colors — all warm hues that will bring to mind a beautiful sunset in the desert. The lip offerings include two new High Shimmer Lip Gloss shades ($23 each at  BobbiBrownCosmetics.com), Firefly and Bronzed Heather; two new Lip Gloss hues ($23 each at BobbiBrownCosmetics.com), Evening Rose and Honeysuckle; and two new Shimmer Lip Gloss colors ($23 each at BobbiBrownCosmetics.com), Pink Sunset and Twilight.

To add contrast to these warm, sun-drenched neutrals and pinks, the collection includes a refreshing, modern shade of the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Eye Shadow ($24 at BobbiBrownCosmetics.com): Blue Moon, a crease-proof, long-lasting, shimmering shade of aquamarine with shimmering silver undertones that give the hue a demure, all-over sheen.

Turquoise again makes an appearance in the collection’s two Nail Polish shades ($18 at BobbiBrownCosmetics.com): Twilight, a blackened violet-purple infused with shimmering red and copper shimmer; and Turquoise, a rich and creamy turquoise color.

Below, you’ll find close-up shots of the various pieces in the collection, along with swatches of the Desert Twilight Eye Palette, the Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Blue Moon and the two Shimmer Lip Gloss hues,

DESERT TWILIGHT EYE PALETTE

As previously described, the eight hues in the Desert Twilight Eye Palette ($60 at BobbiBrownCosmetics.com) feel like a panoramic view of the colors you’d encounter if you stared at  the rock formations in Utah’s Bryce Canyon National Park or explored Arizona’s Grand Canyon, then stared at the sky during the sunset hours. The palette includes a number of neutral hues like a sandy cream, a mauve-tinged muddy brown, a matte fawn hue, and a shimmering coppery brown, along with several golden, coppery, and violet-tinged pinks in shimmering or glittery finishes.

Below, you’ll find swatches of the first row of eye shadow shades in the palette, which includes: Navajo, a velvety soft, matte cream color that will remind you of bentonite clay; Twilight, a shimmering coppery brown color reminiscent of cocoa beans; Pink Dusk, a shimmering rose gold color that mixes a dirty sand base with tiny lilac-tinged pink pearls for an all-over sheen; and Water Color Pink, a sparkle eye shadow saturates with lilac-tinged, silvery pink glitter for a Monet-ish effect.

Next, you’ll find the hues in the bottom row of the eye palette, which include: Chocolate Mauve, a rich and muddy brown with just a pinch of mauve-tinged pink shimmer; Dusk, a barely-there lavender pink hue with golden pink shimmer; Cement, a matte fallow brown color with a dusky finish; and Twilight Pink, a shimmering yellow gold with pink undertones and an all-over sheen.

LONG-WEAR CREAM SHADOW

In addition to a new shade of Long-Wear Eye Liner, Twilight Night Shimmer Ink (pictured above at left), the collection includes a new shade of Long-Wear Cream Shadow: Blue Moon. The limited-edition shade is simply stunning on lids as it’s semi-sheer but easily buildable to achieve the desired intensity. The blue is a mermaid-worthy aquamarine color with some silver shimmer mixed in to give the shadow its three-dimensional feel.  Check out swatches below!

LIP GLOSSES

Though the collection includes six lip gloss hues, I only tied two of them — specifically, the two new Shimmer Lip Gloss colors: Pink Sunset and Twilight. The Pink Sunset Shimmer Lip Gloss is a high-shine, sheer, light nectarine pink shade with golden shimmer, while the Twilight Shimmer Lip Gloss feels like a burnt caramel shade with coral pink undertones and both gold and rosegold shimmer particles. Check out swatches of the two shades below!
